What Is A Wood Stove?

Also from your analogy, my wood burning appliance is in a larger metal box, as I live in a mobile home.

Also some stoves are better than others, like some saws are better than others. Newer saws get better gas mileage, like newer stoves get more heat per unit volume of wood burned in them. Secondary and tertiary air intakes and catalytic converters help wood burn more efficiently. Also it helps to have a tight box which applies to Alice as well ;)

Well, where I put my wood, I do not call it a stove. Things do heat up in there, but I call her Alice. If I got her knocked up I would call it 'having one in the oven', but she is still not a stove.
I see you're affectionately referring to your stove as Alice. Have you made Alice airtight and does she come with a lifter leg and poker?

I have three stoves-- one each in the house, cabin, and sauna. My big beast Nashua in the house is my favorite because it's the simplest. Like you were saying, it's a big steel box that burns big pieces of wood. Two baffles on the door and a damper on the pipe. Burns hot and long.

Yeah pretty soon there will be enough light to go out n do something productive in the evening besides sit around and contemplate your burning wood on AS. :surprised3:
Just out of curiosity, what kind of internet connection you have up there Gypo?

I have this little apple ipad mini tablet with a cellular connection with Virgin mobile. It costs 10$/GB/ month, so I try not to go over 5 gig. With the right settings the tablet will last a full 10 hours on a full charge.
I guess if I didn't have the net I'd just be reading books and stoking two stoves.
