i finally have to replace my favorite saw- a stihl 041 farmboss. Grandpa bought it new in 1978. It finally met the maker last week- the D7 found it sitting on top of a stump. What saw would be the best replacement for this one? I have an excellent stihl dealer right down the road, and an echo dealer right next to him. the stihl dealer used to sell husky, but now hates them with a passion and sends them out to be worked on. i also have a stihl 026, 038AVS, 044 Mag, and a small echo top handle. any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

With those last four saws you mention it would seem you've got things pretty well covered.&nbsp; What did <i>you</i> have in mind?

If you are running a D7, I have to guess that you would want a decent size saw, forget the 026 and go with the 044. Too bad about your dealer’s feelings regarding the huskies, the 372xp is an awesome saw and probably $50-100 less than the Stihl. I really like my 372 and you can get them online for under $600.
One thing you might want to keep in mind, I think the Stihl warrantee is 90 days. I think I heard Husky is 2 years, but don’t quote me on that.
Which ever you decide to go with, you can probably expect to get another 25 years out of.

when we go out to cut firewood, there are usually 5-6 of us out there working. we mainly use the saws to clear new farmland or to remove dead trees in the fencelines. we also cut 30-50 cords of firewood per year. i have a logosol timber-jigg so we can cut a few new boards for trailers and fences. i was looking for something to put on the timber-jigg that cuts a little faster than the 044.

If you are going to do some milling and that much cutting, take a hard look at the 046 or better yet the 066.

I think the warranty on a Husky is 2 years residential use, 90 days commercial. I think that's what I read in the manual for my 346xp.

I wonder if the reason that the dealer hates Huskies is because of the internet sales. The dealer I bought my saw from went off on a big rant when I told him I could get the 346xp $50 cheaper online. (not to mention the tax). He went off about how buying a saw online is a liability for Husqvarna and such, and how he is thinking about going entirely to Stihl (husky/stihl/echo dealer) because of the internet sales policy that Husqvarna has. He still knocked $25 bucks off the saw in the end, and that was fine with me.
