Here's what I've got to offer up , fwiw . Instead of narrowing down the buildoff to 1 - 2 saws , why not just have catergories open to all manufacturers and categorise the saws into classes that have a ? 3cc + or - limit ?
You could even have open vs open , closed vs closed port saws included . This way members could run "homeowner" saws that they have massaged and are proud of . ie; 55 ranchers , etc , against similar saws .
Kind of a " run what you brung " format , with common sense classes , so that no one has a big mechanical ( other than their own building skills ) advantage . :chainsawguy:

How about the 9 series of homlites? 923,924,925 Homelites? They seem to be plentiful, and it would be cool to see an old school saw with some new school tuning tricks done to it.

I don't see how it would be worth it. Ring locating pins and skirts on the 10mm wrist pin piston keeps intake and exhaust port widths narrow.
The saws have a relatively large mixing area to begin with and pretty much ideal blow-down time from the factory.

After being modded, the saws wouldn't offer their owners much service life.

PLEASE CHANGE YOUR AVATAR BACK TO BEAKER!!!

I've tried to stay out of this and let the chips fall where they may BUT,

The next (as well as all the rest of them) buildoff saw needs to be something readily available and inexpensive enough for the average Joe to get hold of!

If you want to exclude about half of the folks that would like to come out and play, make it something like the 084/088/3120 etc.
I couldn't even play when the stakes were as high as an 066/660.

I would suggest something like the OPEN PORT 6400/6401!!!!!

That is a saw that can be picked up for $150.00-$250.00 in good running condition and is readily available.

The 7900 is a great idea but even a decent used one is going to be around $400.00.
I am lucky enough to have a couple just waiting, but not everyone is.

Do what you want and I will be happy to watch but I think it would be better to let poor guys play too.

i propose a 4 cube saw build. it can be any saw that fits in the 4 cube class(6400,365,038 etc etc). saw has to be built with factory ,true to a chainsaw, parts. no two piece heads,no welded carb blocks. has to run on gas (93 or110 octane)

I agree with you ole buddy. It would be alot more exciting to see something bigger in the buildoff though. Thats why I think it would be cool to do two different saws. Maybe like a 4 cube and a 5 cube buildoff. :D

I vote for a 200T wearing a 36" bar with full comp chain in a hickory cant. User has to have a beer in his left hand while sawing.

Something like this is what your gettin at.:D Fatguy has that contest won!!
