Was the new piston grade matched?
Grade matched? Its an old chainsaw, I bought aftermarket from Red Barn.
Was the new piston grade matched?
No, why? Nothing has changed except a top end kit.Have you checked squish?
Were those blind cylinders? They have, early Indian motorcycle cylinders, from the machine shop for locust Grove restoration.
The squish may have been excessive to start with, add to that a piston thats a few thou shorter & doesn’t have a layer of carbon on top & you could well have 0.050" more squish than what's ideal (& a bunch less compression)No, why? Nothing has changed except a top end kit.
Yes.Were those blind cylinders?
how can you tell? White cane? dark glasses?Yes.
well, an A piston in a C cyl will be a bit sloppy and may not hold compression well.Grade matched? Its an old chainsaw, I bought aftermarket from Red Barn.
Non removable headWhat does "blind" mean with regard to a cylinder?
Not at all, the conversation he had with me all the while facing the wall.....how can you tell? White cane? dark glasses?
Have you done a compression test with throttle held at WOT? I’m curious to see some numbers.I've been around 2 stroke bikes for 30 years, so Im familliar with plating and who to go to, etc.
My 452VL ran ok but was a bit low on compression. I did a top end, crank seals, etc and still little compression. (Not measured but pulling the cord there's zero feedback, runs though) Cylinder is obviously worn. No scoring or anything obvious. What do you vintage guys do in this situation? A replate at Millennium Technologies (if they'd even do it) is up to $320 now and you never know what you get used off Ebay.

Could be wrong, but I don’t think Echo does/did the ABC thing. Know that was common on older German and Swedish saws that used Mahle and KS top ends “back in the day”.Was the new piston grade matched?
ExactlyNon removable head
What model Indian as most I have seen are not blind cylinders. Also I am far from a bike guy but I am thinking they were iron boresYes.
Ah…didn’t know that.Could be wrong, but I don’t think Echo does/did the ABC thing. Know that was common on older German and Swedish saws that used Mahle and KS top ends “back in the day”.
