I would like to know what type of climbers you all use and what type of pad you all use? I know some of you out there don't use them at all, but for those of you that do. Why do you use the type that you do and why did you choose the pad to go with it. Thanks to those who reply. BB Personaly I like the T2 titanium climbers with 21/4in gaffs for the light weight and less fatigue when climbing on them all day. As for the pads I like the super Wrap Pads with the steel shin support. Because you can't beat the comfort. To me this combo seems to be the ultimant comfort when using gaffs.

I've done more removals this past summer then the past three years. I've been using the Wolf plastic climbers with the quick change gaff (2 allen wrench screw/nuts each) but have come to the conclusion that having them adjusted to full length makes them unstable.

I'm probably going to go back to the aluminum and velcro on some Klines or Bashlin. I could never reall tell the diferance between the two, it all depends on the type of gaff you mount.

I dont get into many really thick barked trees so I like a shorter hook.

The WORST climbers I ever tried were those fiberglass shanked/rubber footpad ones!

They sucked more than anything that ever sucked throughout the history of sucking.

Do you really? I tried them out for a day and just didn't feel good in them. I thought the rubber sole would be more comfortable on my feet, but they made it even worse. Horizontal movement seemed extra hard.

I allmost traded my brand-new Bashlin/velcro cinch pads for them, but after a day in them I changed my mind.

The gaff repositioning thing was pretty cool!:)

Buckinghams with velcro cinch pads.

No particular reason, just don't spend enough time in gaffs to worry about 'em.

Kleins and Buckinghams, used to have the auminum Bashlins, but they walked, thanx to an ex  employee.

I have the B'ham velcro old style pads, which are OK, but not as good as the western favorite aluminum frame and foam "Cadillac " pads...which are also much cheaper. Mine are 35 yrs old, just replace the foam every so often.

David gave me a pair of new Wolfclaws to try to sell, for some friend of his....They are really strange, and very slow to put on and adjust. Anyone want to buy em? $150 or less

I am using the vlecro wrap pads on a set of 2 3/4 kleins.

I have some repalceable gaff B'hams and the velcro pads with the steel insert on order. The main reason for the switch is to go to the steel insert pads. The pads I have now are pretty worn and are getting sloppy. I also like the B'ham gaff design better than the kleins, axious to try them.

I have the Buckingham's with the long gaffs. Just got them because that was what the supply place had. Got the Buckingham velcro wrap pads with the steel insert about half a year later because the T pads sucked. I have tried the velcro pads with the steel insert and without. I think that unless you get the steel insert in them.. they aren't worth purchasing.

I use the Bashlin aluminun with the velcro pads with the steel shank... Far beter than the old Bucks.... And I haven't spent a full day wearing hooks in recent memory...

I use Buckinham Steel Climbers with long gafts and Buc Buc Pads ( I think that is right) They use 1 pair of straps per leg. They soak up the sweat and don't chap me at all. I actually leave the straps a little looser than with L Staps and they are plenty comfortable for me. The weight really isn't a problem because I weight 225 and I figure I could save the money.

I'm happy with my current setup -- Bashlin Alcoas with the rigid aluminum pad frame padded with dense closed cell foam. I think others have called these pads "Cadillac".
As to why, they are very comfortable. The stirrup of the Bashlin is fairly wide, gives good support to the foot...the pad completely restrains the top of the shank from digging into your leg as many pads do allow, also keeps movement of pad on leg to a minimum so friction is not likely to cause discomfort. I have to pack my gear into climbing sites often enough that the lighter weight of the aluminum is appreciated, too.

Yep, Rocky J, those are the style I'm using. Like so many things in climbing gear, what is one persons' favorite will often enough be anothers' bane :D . I sure do like them. Only time they have ever given me any trouble is very hot weather, when chaffing can get you...but that can be the case with any pad, I think. That's all the time for you, huh :p ?

I never have chaffing 'cause I put pads on in the morning. The guys think I crazy(maybe?), but I can stand on my gaffs all day with no discomfort. The pads stop just beneath my patella, so I can also knell on bumpy, rough branches.
People think their hot, but it doesn't bother me, even in the dead of summer.

I'm a fanatic for pain-free climbing. This is just one aspect.

:)

I have the buckingham 3 1/2'' non replacable gaffs because at the time I was working in thick barked pine alot. I use the triple thick T pads and have no complaints, differant strokes for differant folks I guess:p
