What's the difference between a Vermeer BC1000 and the BC1000XL?

Just bought a very low hour BC1000 with the 3.3 Cummings engine. Everything I see on the web mentions the "XL" and I can find very little about the non-XL. Can anyone enlighten me? Also, maintenance tips would be appreciated, what to keep an eye on, etc. Thanks

honestly both machines are the biggest pieces of JUNK you will ever run, DO NOT BUY

Guess he didn't read "I just bought"
the Bc 1000 is an earlier version and was sold with a 10" capacity the BC 1000xl is sold with a 12 inch capacity, I would recomend using it mainly for brush as it only has 2 cutter knives and the drum really vibrates on logs and 10" is good fire wood any way, but over my **** and duck , I would love to have a diesel self feeding chipper, what did you have to give for it if you don't like it I will trade you my 1600 plus cash for it. I have been looking at all the smaller 9-12 inch chippers on You tube all out of my price range unless I sell somthing first,
Paul

I've had my 2001 BC1000 for over a year now, bought it with a 1000hrs, have over 1100 on it now, same engine as yours (very good engine) runs great! Keep the knives sharp, greased, fluids/filters changed and it''ll be good to you. I think the newer ones with all the sensors/computers and stuff are what everyone has the problems with. I put 12" logs through mine all the time and eats em up pretty good, the auto feed will stop the log when/if the engine needs to power back up and starts ripping and chipping again. Every machines going to have a problem or a fix one time or another. So people can say what they want and when something breaks down they say this that and the other thing about it! It's my first chipper ever and so far I am really liking it, speeds up production so much, and is fairly light to tow 5000 lbs. Congrats on your buy hope it serves you well. :msp_thumbsup:

Thanks for the info. i went to the local Vermeer shop and bought all the filters. I already converted them all to Napa part numbers and have ordered additional filters from NAPA. From what I have gathered, the original BC1000 was a 10" chipper with an upgrade to 12" available later on. Also it has "Autofeed". The 1000XL is a 12" chipper and has "Smart Feed" I think they call it. Anyone know the difference between the two?
