Well, how's this for an update.. I go tomorrow morning ( approx 8'oclock ) to Ohio for the weekend. Today there's several messages on my answering machine from Shaver furnace and my dealer. The stove is coming TOMORROW !!!!!!!!!!
LESS than one day's notice !! And I'm supposed to have cash, certified check or M.O. Suppose I were already in Ohio ?? Or on vacation somewhere ?? I still have the email that the stove HAD been scheduled for the 23rd ( unaware of that until I inquired ) but was changed to the 30th July.. Am I supposed to screw up my plans because of their lack of communication ??
I mean come on.. what would they have done when they pulled in the driveway and no one was home? Take it another 1120 miles back to Arkansas ?
This was beyond poor, this was ridiculous... Now I have to wait until the banks open and do my business, then come home and wait for them ? I don't think so. I'll figure out some way to do this but I'm definately not happy.

BEN: We NEVER deliver a furnace without calling! That would be dumber than dumb. That's why were were desperately trying to reach you - to make sure you'd be there!

I apologize for the week delay in delivering it but we had a truck break down (twice) a thousand miles from home and another one was run off the road by a hit-and-run driver - resulting in damaged furnaces and a bent-up trailer. Things happen and sometimes communication gets poor in all the mayhem.

What also happens, is that we'll have a route all planned out and then someone will say they're not available or are going away and then we have to find another customer to deliver to - at the last minute.

That really messes up a lot of things!

You didn't have to take the stove then, if it's too inconvenient to go get a check or if it would mess up any plans. We were just trying to expedite things and make you happy! We could have come back next week!

Please remember, we are not in the shipping business - at least not out of choice. We make stoves - and have been for 36 years! We just started delivering them ourselves because the freight companies damaged at least 50% of the stoves, and while that wasn't our fault, the customers sure wouldn't be happy!

We do all of this as a service, with trucks on the road non-stop, to get your furnace there safely. The logistics of all of this is a nightmare and believe me, we are doing our best!

You're exactly right with your explanation!

Between the local dealers and other stoves headed your way, maybe they figured they could save some money by loading it on the truck with another order and delivering it. I agree with your situtation but it does keep our costs down and not too many people are upset with getting something they ordered early. Again, we feel your pain, but hey man... you got your stove!:greenchainsaw:

Thanks!

You're exactly right with your explanation!

And most people are thrilled!

Ben

I live in Mid michigan and have a Woodmaster 5500. I burn roughly 10 cord a year (sept/oct - apr/may). Heating and domestic water for a 3800 sq foot home (insulated fairly well), and 2 adults, 2 children for hot water needs.
I fill once a day when temps are above 30...below 30 I usually will fill twice a day. Keep the home at 74 degrees all winter long, and occasionaly send heat to a 30*40 barn that is uninsulated.
Hope this gives ya an idea of wood usage...not sure how your winters are but I'd start the first year w/ atleast 10 cords. No fun trying to find wood in Feb.
Good luck

Do you really want a Central Boiler with no ash pan, a thinner (1/4") firebox, square

Ben, don't mean to tip over the apple cart. I'm just excited to get the boiler. If I wanted a CB I can get one @ 15 miles from here. I have searched and scraped up $ for 3 years to buy what I think is the best stove for the money. I know your doing the best you can with the help you have. I expect the delivery to go smoothly.

Well Ben, I'd like to believe you guys were " desparately " trying to reach me but here are the facts.. Callbacks are practically non existent at least in
my particular situation. This has happened several different days, not just today. And when someone answers it doesnt seem they are on the same page. The messages that were on my machine were all in one day and for your benefit, not mine relative to delivery. Ben, I work for a living and when I got home at 6 o clock I certainly didnt expect anyone to answer the phone on your end.

TODAY I CALLED you guys at Weldrite. Explained I went to the bank, got a cashiers check, ( my bank no longer does certified ) money was w/drawn from my account and check was issued to Weldrite Inc. I further explained where the money would be and that we would be leaving shortly. Explained where to place the furnace. This was also explained to the dealer last night who said he would forward the info to Shaver furnaces. The dealer further explained his invoice was wrong and gave me the corrected total. I was concerned what WELD RITE's total was since that was the one that would have to match whatever your DRIVER is supposed to collect. She didnt have the same amount as me. The lady said someone would CALL ME BACK IN 5 to 10 minutes. After a half hour we left but the mother in law stayed at the house. I called the mother in law after an hour.. no one called.. waited another 3 hours. still no call.
I then CALLED THE FACTORY AGAIN, ( thank God for cell phones ) spoke to a lady who said they finally got the price right ( they were off by a thousand the first time ) and apparently the cashiers check was ok since she didnt say anything about it and I repeated where to retrieve the check and place the furnace.
I last called the mother in law at approx 7:30 pm. still no furnace or a call.
Now whether the furnace has been delivered I dont know`I cant see it from Ohio. What I do know is that you dont let a customer know the night before the delivery if not for common sense, then for good P.R. reasons. I've done the brunt of the calling, running around to get things done ( the banks close at 5 here in Pa so last night was out in getting to the bank ) and delaying our trip to help expedite this delivery, not to mention informing the dealer of the
the info relative to the check and placement of the furnace.
If the furnace is as good as the communication was bad, I should be well satisfied. Assuming it comes ( or came ) And if it didnt come after all that well....... I guess you know who wouldnt be a happy camper.

I still think the people at weld rite are nice people but geez.......... and I hope things get smoother as time goes on. The customers deserve it.. : - )

Good points ngzcaz. If you're still on here Ben, you may want to think about adding some more family to the phone lines. I can't believe there are people out there that want to order a stove and can't get an answer back from your company. By the way, can you give me a call? :)

I just called my residence and found there was no delivery. I then called Weldrite Inc and wastold to hang on a minute thankfully, I got thru to the owner Billy Shaver after a minute or two and spoke with him directly. Couldn't have gone smoother or quicker. Apparently truck problems ( delivery wasnt made yesterday ) slowed their schedule. If anyone called to notify me I don't know.
All I know is that the delivery should be in 20 minutes and he even gave me the drivers name and telephone number in case of problems. I'll repost in an hour or two but thumbs up to Billy Shaver for the way he handled this matter.
Double thumbs up for the personal service.

 :greenchainsaw:

The mother-in-law called and said the furnace was delivered a few minutes ago. Glad everything is finally over with. Again, my complements to Billy Shaver and his driver for making a good thing from a less than satisfactory one. Now it's time for the install, fire her up and check it out before the snow's on the ground.
And hopefully I can rave about the owb and how it works.

:greenchainsaw:

I probably wont even wait for the complete install. I can plug it in with my outdoor receptacle. Just a small one to see how the draft is and how much stove pipe I might need..

Wonder how much stovepipe the average guy puts on ? I would think hardly anyone would let it go with the stock pipe.

 :greenchainsaw:

Shaver Furnace

I too ordered a Shaver Furnace(in April)and was supposed to have it by the end of June...They let me know it would be late, and it came when Ben said it would. In Ben's defense, the people at Shaver were very courteous to me and Billy and Ben both are both very knowledgeable and passionate about their furnace. I think to myself how many times I've called them with now seemingly silly questions and they've always been courteous in helping me. BTW I work on boilers (much larger scale) for a living, and this furnace looks like it'll last...time will only tell.
