No doubt, that looks like a lot of work Harry!

Sometimes you have to know when to say enough is enough. Wish I lived closer, I'd give you a hand with that old bear...

If you check back, I think two pics, you will see that I pulled out leavign a 1/4 split ready for loading. Of course I should have quite about one round prior to that :hmm3grin2orange:

Was on honeydos today, mostly running erands and escorting her shopping. Be on the wood pile tomorrow, proabably manual mode. I also have to replace the sledge hammer handle - seems someone over reached on a round house swing the other day. Somehow those handle protectors don't work when the handle hits the wedge instead of the hammer head.

Hard work? Well, I suppose so for short periods. I think the longest I was out there was 4 hours. That is about the point I 'hit the wall' these days and have to quit.

Put in about 3 hours on the woodpile but most of it was on the splitter. Started manually but whimped out after the first stint. Just too much waiting for processing to be screwing around.

That is right at 8 cord split and stacked with at least 2 (probably 3) waiting to be processed. All wood I didn't need this year but I promised the guy to get those trees out of there.

The old pile that I will be using off of this season has 15 or more cords:

Sadly I was not able to give that monster tree away so I guess I am stuck with it. Will be after harvest and that field is usually the last one cut in the county - probably be into Sept before I can start.

Town barber says he will lay it down for me as I don't have a saw big enough. He may even lay down a big locust this week that is next to a power line. He is an ex-logger (screwed up his back) and knows what he is doing.

I sometimes have trouble seeing what I need to see while sharpening chains. A small flex lamp and a magnifying glass is a huge help.
Good luck with that big tree. Stay safe.

Finished splitting/piling the last of that big tree this mornign. Did the last 1 1/2 cord with the maul/wedges. The ricks are 24' 5" long, almost 7' tall. I started the removal of the trees in that area when there were only 2 ricks (3 cord) in that pile. there are now 7 so that pencils out to a bit over 8 cord out of 3 trees.

That pile contains 11 plus cords (not counting the unsplit chunks holdign up the ends, also made almost 2 cord of Locust on a separate stack and a good 1/2 cord willow where I sstarted a 'yard' in a poor spot. Thus around 14 cords for the season so far and I still have 1/2 dozen medium locust to harvest when the field is cut.

Also still have the huge SOB of a Willow to get out. Sure wish I could pass on that one.

I for sure didn't expect to get that much in when I started last spring :givebeer: :givebeer: :givebeer:

Still have to put away the splitter and haul the knotty/crotch stuff over to the old pile to make curly fries out of.
