bucket truck

the lift and dump box are an asplundh unit. the cab and chassis on both trucks are penske rental trucks the bucket cost 50k (120k miles), the chip truck 25k (130k miles). both are diesel, the bucket truck has a six speed eaton/fuller 33k gvw. the chip truck a five speed spicer and is 25 gvw (slightly under powered @195 hp) I do not like the spicer in the chip truck, i'm on my second one, however trueco replaced the first one at no charge and camerota transmission replaced the clutch, again at no charge

Yeah, it seems our performance is "questionable at best", I feel like I'm back in High School waiting to see the principal (but not really knowing why I'm there)

So again, my point that Asplundh units are good when bought right. The Asplundh boom and hydros are the most important, anything after that, is just a regular truck, and dealt with if needed be easily. Not to mention that the only trouble you had with your unit was the chassis that was supplied by Penske and WASN'T SUPPLIED BY SURPLUS ASPLUNDH...

HEH:clap:

OK listen Im done with the pissing match here! Tell me where quality trucks are sold. I will not buy an asplundh truck they are junk and the cheap way out I my eyes and I dont want a gas job and a pony motor. So this is my thread and I want nothing else about them. I wont buy one and I wont consider it.

Thanks

I disagree, all used trucks will have issues, I have had 4, 2 BIG O's, both ROW trucks have been fine, booms are certified and run great, there are many different outfits that "re-hab" these trucks, some do it alot better than others. Example: Schmitdys in Clinton Ill, they suck, knock off the rust, spray them white.
I-80 Equipment in Colona, Ill, completely rebuilds them, they leave almost new, very solid trucks, and they will paint white or your choice, but, more mula for sure. The trucks are not junk, if they were, the largest tree company on this earth would not use them. You get what u pay for, period!
I have had issues with mine, no different than a used car, its going to happen. Just had the upper half of my engine redone, now stronger than ever, even has a little rump with the RV cam! I bought mine at schmidtys, knowing who/what I was dealing with helped alot, I went with ammo, got the truck I wanted, the one untouched by them! paid 19,000,if they painted it, they would have marked it 29 thou, have put several thousand into it, because I wanted to, painted it my self and have upgraded many systems, all for way less than buying one in the same condition. The hydraulic system in these is very simple, ever looked at the system on a utility bucket! I have one of those 2, there is 10 times the amount of lines in one of those, the utility's have more boxes, out riggers, little gadgets here and there, but are a complete bear to fix, mine has been sitting for a few years, waiting for me to have the time to try an isolate a bad o ring, there is several hundred different locations that it could be in,you have to pressure check every valve and I dont have that time, so it sits. My forestry truck, has a simple system, EASY TO FIX!
I agree on the gas, wish I had a Diesel, trading my work of art in the spring for a 75' elevator like 57 has, it will be diesel, and I will paint it green and do all the other stuff I did to this one. The pony motor is for saving fuel, u can still run it off the engine if you like, but the fuel savings, as compared to a truck that dont have one is crazy, plus the are quiet.. Some day, I will have enough Mula to have one built to my specs, at about $150,000, its gonna have to wait!
Buy what u want, google will tell you where, but the forestry trucks, they are not junk.

LOL,

First off, this is not "your thread".

Second, with the attitude you have, you'll be out of business in a short time anyway, so why bother buying a bucket truck?

I'll piss all over this match if I see fit.

Ba-bye....

You are the exact reason why I don't post on this site often. I take ownership of this thread because I orginated it.

Your Boston area tree service is probably one of a hack that spikes prunes, and gives low balled bids. That is why you resort to buying old Asplundh pieces of $hit, because you cannot afford anything better.

Just another poster, that spends more time on this site than working in the field.

Have fun wrenching on your piece of $hit.

288, you should google JJ Kane Auctioneers.. plenty of good used asplundh units there and you get to cut out the middleman. Not sure if they let in the general public though. ;)

you a couple bucks shy for the price of admission but if you got a ton of work i could probably work with you after a trial run....

i would refer to that thing as doo-doo.

:agree2:
Those are the same ones I was talking about, a can a worms waiting to be opened, be really careful about buying utility trucks, alot of junk that is not needed, 1 little O-ring goes bad,in a valve that controls something that you will not use, then your in for it! Those have variable speed pumps too, making testing really hard. Those trucks come with plumbing already run for options for the utility company's, in other words, there is a ton of valves and control blocks that are installed from the manufacturer, that all have to work properly for the whole truck to work. Mine has been sitting for............got think about it............since 05!
