i've been on this site for about 9 months and i can't remember
ever seeing any post from any women. (unless stumper is a
chick:D hahahaha)
seriously.............are there any women out there?????? i haven't
run into any in the field or on this site........
just curious,
budroe:cool:

There are a couple of gals that post occassionally in the chainsaw forum. Of course questions in the residential tree care forum come from both genders. Based on his avatars Mike Maas is a woman-and a pretty one since his recent plastic surgery-he used to look positively necrotic!;)

P.S. Sorry to disappoint you Budroe but I am Male, heterosexual and married.:p

ok, I'll fess up now. I really enjoy this site, but I find many men in this field hate the thought of a woman being around, so I wanted to remain 'gender neutral'. I've come across a lot of macho stuff over the years at work and conferences, so I now try to keep a low profile. It's also kind of nice to be anonymous, since I know so many people in the tree biz. An added bonus is it allows me to make statements that other people I know (like my boss) may not appreciate.

You told us you was a gurl long time a go.

Never understood the BS that a woman can't do the job. They have better balance and weight for getting to the branch ends.

I have had more girls than guys in several of my classes to go through the program. Must be the good looking instructor. As JPS says, most find climbing easier than the guys due to the lighter weight versus strength. Have had a couple enter ISA Jamborees in the 90's. At TCI event on Saturday afternoon, I am sure a couple will be trying the big trees of Milwaukee.

See you there.

When I was working at my father's tree service, we had two females work with us. They held there own in about every way but humping blocks of wood to the truck. I see no reason for females not to do tree work. A lot of them butch up and do other types of hard jobs.

O.K. everyone's going to Dennis' house. Who's bringing the beer? :D

Came home to that and your first though was to grab a camera??

Hmmmmm...??

I think I would have grabbed a uh, uh,............beer, yeah, a beer.;)

Never seen a female working around here.

Dennis - what the heck are ya doing serving BUDWEISER?????

I would've offered her a Molson.

That sexy maas of burning love....

Here is part of the Forestry Club following a fundraising tree trimming job. We will all be at TCI. Bob (the distinguished older gentleman)

Thank-you Bob! After some of the comments (I hope a '1 bagger' doesn't mean what it did back in the early 70s) I was afraid to open the attachment. Nice to see some young ladies ready to work.

Budroe, yes there are women (some real, some fictional) who come to the forums (I guess I post mainly on the chainsaw forum)....I can tell you more than you probably want to know about osage orange...beyond that...I'm learning. I can keep my family in firewood though.

This is a good forum, lots of information and good folks. But it's kinda like walking into a strange bar alone and sober....many (most) women don't feel comfortable doing it. Luckily I have a few 'cyber friends' here that give me a bit of support. If I didn't, I don't know if I'd hang around long enough to find out the wealth of knowledge and kindness beyond some of the 'cracks'. Just my opinion.

I respect the women who take on (and can handle) a job in the predominantly male fields. You have to be tough, but also have a sense of humor to get by...IMHO, of course. ;)

You gotta remember that Bob is in ND, got all those farm girls who grew up working hard, and cant find any traditional job to out that energy into. Heck you can't get many teenaged guys to work hard these days:rolleyes:

i think that ladies can make more artful, light climbers with a lower center of balance that also stress the grace of technique rather than trying to overpower the giants in their own field(s)............ so to speak!

Also to keep us in line a bit; for i was really aghast when i got rude(r!) to make a point once, that i ended up putting it on Donna; after all that 'guy' chit i was pointing at!

Where have all the flowers gone?..........!

Ken, I really didn't mean to bust your chops on that one. I was a little out of line.

The number of women is increasing in this field, but a lot of them take a lot of flak on the job. Not much respect, and sometimes the threat of personal danger on & off the job. I think some may be concerned (as I was) that they could face a similar reaction on this site. I think we all come here to learn, and chat with others in the biz, and hopefully offer some useful information or in-sight.

I have found that the people here are supportive, which is a nice change, and where people don't stereotype or judge a group based on 1 bad experience.

There is one woman owned tree co in town that i know about (don't know her), and I hear that she is booked a least 1 month out and charges top dollar year round. She does very little climbing, has a guy working for her. She also runs a landscape crew of only women, I have seen them riding the mowers in an office park near me. --You would think twice before messing with these ladies, they look like they could snap most men like twigs.
I would like to see more women in the business, I think having less muscle forces them to work smarter, and we all need to move in that direction.
Greg
