which chain to pair with Stihl MS250 16" bar?

Before I got my chain grinder I used to file them and it did seem like Stihl chain was harder. The Oregon and others filed easily but the Stihl seemed just a little softer than my file...

The chrome is thicker on the Stihl chain, making them a bit harder to file/harder on the files..

The thicker chrome also means that they can't get as sharp as Oregon chain - but for most people that's just theory. With "race" chain it is a factor though, you hardly hear of anyone using Stihl chain for that...
 
OK, you've convinced me to try the BPX. The logs must have been skidded to get them out of the logging lot, though I haven't seen any embedded rocks.

That's what I suspect, if your chains are really dull after two tanks - but it may also be you that is hitting the ground with the chain now and then (a fairly common mistake) - or a combination.

....and yes, 22BPX-62 is correct for your bar.
 
I should also point out that I'm kind of a rookie sharpener, so I suspect I'm not getting them back to "factory sharp" between sessions. After getting back a couple butchered chains from a lawn&garden shop, I have taught myself to sharpen with files. Some times I'm more successful than others. Also I notice after 5+ sharpening they don't hold an edge as long, likely due to heat and tempering.
