I have read here that in pinch a Husky kill switch will fit a 7900. I just put a replacement Dolmar switch on one of my 7900s and it works, but just doesn't feel very positive in each position, and I am kind of a stickler to how tools feel to my hands. (The original one felt okay, but only lasted several months.)

So I want to consider putting a husqvarna switch in instead, and wondered if anyone already had figured out which one is the best fit. I have thought about seeing if the switch from my 371 would fit, but haven't tried it yet.

After having the 7900 out of commission for several days and then putting it back to work yesterday, I am reminded afresh how much I love using that saw. I run a 28 inch bar with full comp square ground on that saw, and it simply is the funnest and most productive saw I've run. Each time I almost am disappointed when the day's wood is already cut. With the midrange torque it has, it is by far my favorite noodling setup (with fresh square of course).

The 371/372 switch fits right in. We've used this as the replacement switch for our Dolmars since the on/off direction is what most guys are used to. The husky part number is 503718201.

There are 3 of the "red" husky switches. Two of them ground to the crankcase, one to the left, and one to the right. The 3rd, and the one you want, has two terminals on the back, one being the ground terminal.

Thanks, I'll get one and stick in in.

On the issue of switch direction, since I've added the dolmars to the mix and I switch between saws many times a day, sometimes I have to actually look at each saw to remember what direction is off. If I choke my 066 instead of killing it, it can flood.

Husky vs 7900, Stihl vs 5100. Maddening.

Another example of this is my 12 lathe chucks. Some brands tighten one direction, some the other. My favorite brand actually switched direction it tightens at one point in time. A big problem when you think you are checking to see if something is tight and accidently loosen it and loose your position.

how bout the 2xx series kill switch?

I think maybe that was what I heard someone used before, but I could be wrong. Any idea what the difference between the two switches is?

I just looked and one husky switch fits the 37x and the other fits the
272, 288, 394, 395, 3120.

If the second husky one fit the 7900 as well, I would be tempted to have one of those in my toolbox as I run my 395 often and would be sad to have it out of commission even for a couple of days.

Afaik, the 2xx series killswitch is the left/right switch type, while 3xx series switch being up/down type... no idea which fits 7900 thou...

Just googled for 7900 pic and that kill switch looks exactly the same as 2xx series switch..

The switch on the 353/359/346 is up and down....totally differant, not the setup you want.

The 372/385 is a direct bolt in, erh snap in. lol

There are a couple differant 2 series switches, but most of them have a metal grounding ring that bolt to the saw for the ground. The 372/385 switch is a direct snap in. The frame size is also larger on the 2xx switches....

Yeah!

I was just using my 7900 and 372xp yesterday. 3-guys, 3-saws and John deere Tractor. Going to start a thread discussing the saws guys. But... I was going back and forth between the (2) and had a heck of time getting them started. Due to the backwards switch thing. Kinda frustrating.

For now, I popped out the switches on my 7900 and reversed the direction (end for end). Short term it is even more confusing because I was a little used to the old way, but long term I think I like it because now my 7900 switch is the same direction as my Huskies.
