New member. Sorry, I don't have a lot of time at the moment to fill in a lot of details, but I'm interested in what you guys would recomend for a new indoor wood burning furnace? I'm interested in an add on styly, and I don't want something with a forced (blower) draft.

Thanks, got to run

How about when you have time

sit down and give us a few hints as to what we are heating for you.. I would say one from lowes will treat you just fine.

Sorry for the lack of details earlier. I was in a hurry and had to leave.

I'm heating an 1800 sq ft ranch home. I'd like to have the fire burn about 12 hours with a few good size pieces of hickory, oak, or ash. It won't normally need to burn this long, but that would work well for the rare occations when everyone sleeps in, or we're away from home for most of the day. The house was built to use a wood burner, but the last owner took it out. When I was younger we used wood heat excusively until I went off to college and dad lost his "free labor". I have always enjoyed cutting wood, and I have access to a fair amount of good hard wood locally. I have central air and want an add on style to tie into the plenum of my current furnace. I've seen a few wood furnaces at Menards and Big R that have spring loaded dampers on the fire box. The furnace that we used to use had this and it worked really well. I've never had to pick out a new wood furnace, and it's been 30 years since dad looked at them so he's not sure what to recommend any more either. Most of the guys I talk to locally are in the same boat. They all have old wood furnaces and don't know what to recommend that's on todays market.

Thanks again,
Mark

Fields mj try this site...you can even call the toll free # and talk with one of the techs that put this furnace thru all kinds of tuff testing, keep an open mind on the forced draft blower..I like it...after getting use to it. this furnace is a FIRECHIEF and has great warranties...i have a model 500 and love it. check out thier web site , DW:givebeer: http://www.firechiefwoodfurnace.com/fc500.aspx

Personally

I would not own a wood eating furnace without a forced air draft. I want the fire to ramp up quick when the stat calls for heat. Yukon makes a great furnace too.
