I always wondered when I use my smaller saws it sounds like a typical chainsaw but the 660 has this whistling sound. What is it? It's not only mine I hear it on all the big saws at work.

I have wondered about that on mine also. I wondered if it was going to hatch on me when I got it (used), but all seems well. Maybe something to do with the shape/material of the fins on the flywheel?

My 460 does it and it is the fins on the flywheel that creates that noise at W.O.T I reckon it sounds kinda cool lol

time for Bubb Rubb

Maybe someone installed a 'whistle tip' on your saw. Sorry couldn't resist!!

I believe it's the chainsaw version of the human "death rattle"
I'm told the "death whistle" is a common Stihl feature. It's only a matter of time.......;)
