My cousin came over Thursday to see how the mill works, so we cut a couple slabs off the White Birch log. I hadn't touched up the chain since the last time I used it, and you can tell. It took 4 min and 5 sec to make the cut, the log was 60" long buy about 24" wide. I took a video and it's about the most boring 4 min and 5 sec you have ever seen. As soon as I figure out how to post it to photobucket I'll post it here. In the mean time here's a still of the first slab, Joe.

Thanks for the picture. You could make a good two butt bench from it. :)

I think I'm going to make a coffee table out of it, using mortise and tennons. Two of the slabs from a little deeper had some real nice swirly paterns. I've got more pictures to post, but ????. I took the pictures with my new Android Smart Phone and it's smarter than me. I was playing with it and did something and lost my internet connection. I'm waiting for the store to open so the teenager behind the counter can fix it for me, Joe.

Joe,

I hear ya... When we bought a Wii system for our grand-kids I got the 16yr old neighbor kid to set it up. Took him maybe 15 minutes to set it up and that included taking it out of it's packaging. Now give me cars/chainsaws, way different.

Headed to the local lawnmower shop this morning to get some measurements off a Stihl 088 and a Husky 3120 for bar bolt spacing. When I build my next mini-mill I plan to use another 820 PowerBee motor I have as the power head. I plan to up date this saw to a newer bar from say, a Husky 3120 or Stihl 088 or 90. It's all metric bolts and I need to know what the c/c distance is for when I machine the engine mounting plate. At 134cc's it's going to have plenty of power.

It's cool get those cool slabs to make tables. Some of the stuff I have mill, I plan to do the same. Just have to let it dry.

I think you might not be able to refer to that thing as a mini mill!

But I'm sure it will be sweet...Looking forward to pics and one of your excellent write ups.:msp_thumbup:

Will,

It will be overkill, but I got to thinking, what am I saving the motor for. Sure will be fun making big cants. I just talked to a friend this weekend who offered me for free a Koler 2-stroke 2-cyl motor that only has maybe 40 hours on it. Would that make a wild rail style mill?

The mini er.. monster mini-mill will be one of my winter projects, and I will be documenting it's build.
