Looks like fun. You'll probably get flamed for not using a friction saver though. Me? Any time I'm in a white pine thats the first thing that I grab.

Forget about a friction saver, the first branch was at 75'. This tree was not conducive to using one.

They're not that hard to install from the ground. I'll admit I still mess it up sometimes though. I won't put one in if I'm going SRT but if I isolate the branch and go Ddrt I'll always put one in a pine.

I will footlock with my MarBar upper, might get the lower out for 75-80ft. Friction saver is a PITA, I don;t know why someone would Ddrt.

Fun stuff, though Cape would have freeclimbed it ;)

Big Shot

Looked like fun....did you use the Big shot to set your rope?

Absolutely. Actually my buddy set the rope with my Big Shot. he went first then I followed him. We did use mar bars to get to the first branch (75 ft) then we switched to Drt for the remainder of the climb.

Great pics DK. Love to do a climb with you guys. I'm tied to this "fixer upper" in the Catskills right now but if I ever get it done here I hope to start spending time in the Daks again. In the meantime if your ever in the Catskills drop me a pm and I'll show you my giant white pine. The view isn't as nice but the first branch is much closer to the ground. :) Back out to shovel more snow we really got dumped on last night.
