I have been unable to come up with a system of holding a chainsaw on my tractor while doing other work. I frequently need to trim low hanging branches while mowing or clear fallen trees while doing the same or cut trees blocking my way while skidding logs out of the woods.

My pristine 028 is getting all beat up being either carried in the bucket or strapped to the rollbar.

Any good ideas? Mine is a 30hp 4x4.

Here is my saw holder.

My late father always used a metal basket of some sort on his tractor. It would carry a lot of tools and "stuff". He carried small tools and small stuff either in an ammo can or a gallon can which also was put in the basket. Old galvanized milk and bread crates work well - some are long and skinny. Hard to find them now-a-days but they were quite common when they delivered milk and bread to your door. Ron

I passed a knuckle boom logging truck last Friday. It had similar holsters on each leg of the A -frame of the out riggers. Looked like an old gunslinger - two Stihls with the mag showing through the worn off paint. I thought it really looked cool - practical except for the long exposure to the elements during hauls. Shouldn't be an issue on a tractor. I like the matching paint on yours and the cushion at the top. Ron

here are a few different clamps i have built to hold a saw.

this one is made of nylon so it wont dull the chain

this one is a little deeper so you wont have to tighten it into place.

here is one i mounted on the toolbox of my truck it works good too for longer trips

I've got one like J.Walkers, two 2x8"s with 1x2"s screwed on the outside and bolted on the mini. Cheap and easy.

Yup. I have had a few get froggy on me. Luckily never ran them over yet though. I have dumped one or two also. :D

When you drive like me saws aren't the only things that get froggy. The only thing worst than running something over with a wheel is straddling it only to center it up nice and pretty for the bush hog. :msp_rolleyes: Ron

I use the milk crate approach too, it is most certainly not the best but it works, and when you aren't carrying a saw you can put a ton of other stuff in there.

If either of those two get too old for the cold, I could arrange for one or both of them to spend their winters in Tennessee. :msp_biggrin: Ron

thanks for the offer lol The truck looks sweet going down the road with a set of Stihl Stacks......

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

J.Walker I really like your idea. I'll take another look at the tractor tomorrow and see if I can make it work for me. Those compact tractors just don't have that much space to mount anything.

Not to get you off this site, but check out www.tractorbynet.com.there is a bunch of different ways to mount the saw to the loader or to the ROPS. Lots of pics there too. I do like what J.Walker did with his, I have seen this on both posts of the tractor loader arms.

These little wooden scabbard dudes are pretty easy to make and have impressed me with how well they hold a saw...You might need to experiment with the angle and or bungee cords.

Went to the site and there are obviously tons of tractor owners with the same problem - it should become standard equipment with all manufacturs! You know - like cup holders in cars!

I especially like the one made from a plastic cutting block - very much like the ones members here are making but with plastic instead of wood. Now just gotta find the perfect mounting system for my tractor.
