Who has used the new Oregon chain?

Just got the new oregon full chisel here yesterday for the first time and am wondering who has been running it.

The new cutters are blued and the drive links are patterned and sequenced.

Stabil link they call the drive link

I wonder if in fact they have listened to everyone and increased the durablilty of the cutters as Oregon was always easy to sharpen but lost it's edge quickly.

I am going back out to cut more wood as soon as I finish dinner.
I will post when I get back in. Just cutting some tops. largest cut will probably be 16 inches.
Heck by the time I am done I will probably give it the ultimate durability check. See how well the edge holds up in frozen snud. Hopefully I will wait til I have a load cut before that particular test. Always, I say always carry a file to the woods. LOL
 
New chain

Hey guys,
I've been using the new LGX chain for about 2 months now. I've had real good luck with it. Monday and Tuesday I was cutting Red Oak, frozen as all get out, about 18-26" and the new chain zap through it like butter. Still haven't had to sharpen one yet, that's prolly with around 20+hours of cutting on the ones I have. I use them on a Dolmar 7900 with 20" and a husky 266XP with 18". They've stood up quite well thus far. I will say they don't take as big of a chip though when you use them. I need to do a little bit of filing on the rakers and I'll reassess the speed of cut. I'd recommend them for anyone. I'd say they are my hands down favorite of any Oregon chain I've tried so far. ;) :rock:


So ya'll know, they were recommended to me by Scott and Steve over at The cutting edge. Once again, they know what's going and I'm very pleased with their recommendation. Thanks boys...:cheers:
 
well I cut a face cord of walnut and a little dirt

I am very pleased., I did not notice the smaller chips.But I did notice that I could really dawg into it pretty good and it will flat out eat.Like I said, a little dirt and the chain seriously shows no sign of dulling. Don't get me wrong I have no "trenched"with it yet. but I will sooner or later.Then we will see how they hold up. LOL

The last two 73LP chains I bought had far too high rakers, several strokes with a 8" raker file were needed to make them right, right out of the box. :jester:

..but now they are just fine.

My guess is that they still will not be quite as good as the Stihl chains - RM is KING for semi-dirty wood, ande RS/RSC for clean wood........:cheers:

Definetly right about that. But the new oregon looks impressing. I'm gonna have to try it.:laugh:
 
The only problem I have with the description on Oregon's site is the "Patented steel".....give me a patent number so I can see what we got here

I have read the provided patents numbers.

I have just two questions on the new chain.

How is the performance in hot weather compared to the old style alloy chain?

Are there any reported oiling differences on the bar and in the roller tips with the new drive link design?
