A Mighty Big Tree

Collin County (WBAP) - A sycamore tree found near Lake Lavon measures 30-feet around its base, and stands 110 feet tall. Those measurements may make it the largest tree in Texas.

Officials with the Trinity Trail Preservation Association came upon the tree while clearing a path for a new trail at Lake Lavon. "This is on the floodplain right on the bank near Wilson Creek," says trail steward Charlie Gaines. "It has always had a lot of water. Sycamores like a lot of water." The tree still has a ways to go to be the biggest in the country. A sycamore stump in Kokomo, Indiana measures 57-feet around.

An official with the Texas Forestry Service confirms the tree is at least the largest in the 28 surrounding counties. Trinity Trail plans to make the tree an attraction by placing a plaque and some picnic tables nearby.

Seem's like I remember something about a big Ponderosa Pine Pumkin up in the PNW. I'll have to let 056 kid elaborate since it's his story.
It's ancient history now, so he should be able to tell the story and grin.
