This thing looks like it would do the job. I'm sure it takes a bit to really get the hang of it. If you have one let me know how you like it (or don't like it). Thanks

The onlt thing I don't like is that I am too short to easily put the bag in the pouch with the pole standing. Other than that its the cats meow for sure.

I've had my bigshot for years, after I got it I didn't know how I got along without it. Dan, if you have some old jameson poles that are broke or cracked, you can cut them to the length that is perfect for you.

actually the pole is the right size for shooting it. I think it took all of 1 minute to get the hang of that thing for me WHICH I have to say is probably how long it should take anybody. It is tricky with the little rope getting all dis-combobulated, you just have to take a few seconds to get combobulated.
With out it? The Dan is just a man... certainly not no treeman, at best a overworked and exasperated treeman. I try not to schedule long shots on Monday morning.

Thanks guys- I'm gonna get me one. What bag weight do you find works best (1.75mm line)? or is it all just a matter of personal prefference.

It's Great! Will leave a welt the size of Rhode Island on the rear end of slow moving groundsman as well as setting your lines!

I have one on two Jameson poles, and I like it a lot. I can pull the head off and put on the pole saw head in a second, or pull one of the poles to shorten it up. It all snaps together. Great investment.

A bit of both. Get several weights, the heavy for isolating the line and shooting through dense canopy, and light for high clear shots over smaller smooth barked limbs.

I like 10,12 & 14 oz. I have 8 oz, but find it often too light to come through the canopy well. You need to let it run all the way to the ground and add weight.

The 16 oz I use mostly for isolation on stout, rough limbs. Mostly for rigging purposes.

+1

10 and 12 are what I use the most. I can't get as high with the 14 and 16 but they do keep the line moving over rough bark. My 8 gets about zero use.

There's a guy in another thread here who could use one of these on "Mike".

I've thought about getting one myself..and this thread has sealed the deal..
And somehow I KNEW someone would tell a story about "other" uses for it..LOL

SEMPER FI!!

great product! My only advice is to get the pole that is 2- 4 foot sections vs. the solid 8 footer. just makes it easier to store in the truck.

Yep. It's just to get us by until the arborist jetpack comes out.

Agreed, the rifle box that sherrills sell with theirs fite the whole unit plus has room for extra throwbags. The box keeps the rubber safe from getting nicked in the back of the pickup from polesaws ect. Great tool. :)

Love it, have had one for years now. The only thing I dont like all that well it the throw bag exploding when you somehow hit the branch you where aiming for, or for that stray shot that hits the trunk of the tree. That one sucks...

This is why I've questioned the investment. Very rarely in my area do I come across trees w/out a good amount of limbs close to the ground. My partner can hit up to 80 feet very accurately with the cradle toss. Add on top of that the risk factor in huffing a one pound weight in the air with a giant slingshot near power lines, houses, moving cars, etc. I'm just not convinced it's the best idea. I'll probably get one eventually but I've many other things to purchase beforehand.
