We had a hard frost here last night, temps in the upper 20's outside. Inside temp is 54. We need the gagare door in the cellar up all day for a garage sale, so the fire will have to wait til tomorrow. Hopefully the sun is out to heat the house passively!!! Burr.

My wife is in charge of house heat. She has built a fire in the fireplace every morning this week. The cat and I keep it going, unless it warms up outside. We have had a hard frost every night this week.

My Step Son and I split all his wood today in the rain. The wood fire sure feels good right now as I get this chill off. She is over stirring the coals and adding wood right now.

As I sit here and type, the inside temperature is 58 degrees. We spent the whole day outside working and plan to hit the bed soon to watch TV, so we really don't need a fire today. Tomorrow is another story! I plan to torch the ole Alpiner up!

All you guys are killing me with your fire burning now:cry: !!! It's still a little warm here for much heat other than just to take the chill first thing in the morning.
Would be nice to have it for the hot water though.

LTREES I was suppose to have gotten my Cozeburn 250 sometime around the first OCT. Put a down payment on 26 AUG. called my salesman last week just to check on things told me it was looking more like sometime in DEC now:mad:

Anyone else having to wait this long?

Asked for my deposit back, ordered a CB 5036. Started the jotul insert, cant beat the roar, snap, cracking and pop.

This is a funny time of year to be burning. If you're surfing the couch just watching tv, the house feels chillly. But if the stove's going and you've been outside working and come into the stove-warmed house, the warmth feels kind of oppressive.

To this problem, there's only one solution: grab a beer and make a b-line for the couch.

:)

You just hit the nail right on the head. Today I came in out of the rain and as I type this, my wife is building a fire. The room is 70 but that fire is going to feel good. I will wait until she is finished before I ask her to bring another beer.

I had the scenario Sunday...after 8 hours of hauling woods up to the woodpile...I hit the couch to relax and watch some sunday night football.
After the 2nd beer I felt a bit chilly...hit the thermostat to 74 and was a happy fella.
Nice to know that all that 2 degrees cost me was some sweat.

I wait until Nov to fire my Hardy H2. I live in NE Ohio. I use propane in the fall and spring. The gas company will bill me $300 tank rent if I don't buy any during the year so I try to burn at least $300 in propane. Jerks.

I bought my 500 gallon tank because of things like this. Now I can shop around and fill it at the cheapest price and not have to worry. I watched for Natural gas to expand into a near by small town and found many tanks for sale at pretty good prices.

Nice in the Northeast

It's been in the 70s here since Friday. Tommorow is more of the same...then on Thursday the bottom drops out.....highs in the 50s for the near future. Most folks here have not had their heat on yet. I could care less!!! Now that's a great feeling! Not one drop of ******* juice used in my home in 3 weeks....I hope in my lifetime they are back to living in tents and riding camels....don't forget they hate Americans and want us dead....Screw them...Imagine if every American home that heated with oil stopped? That would be a real show stopper.

Saturday

Well I finally got my little modification done to the Hardy H4 and filled it with soft water Saturday Morning. For those of you with a Hardy, I wired a switch between the forced air blower and the honeywell controller to create a shut off for filling. The electric valve functions normally allowing the unit to fill without the blower running. Yes I could have just turned honeywell controller down but I personally think that these controllers aren't designed for constant adjustment. Mine is factory set and has a seal on it from the testing tech so I'm not inclined to change it. After the filling, I put a match to it and flipped the switch the forced air blower came on and after 45 minutes it came up to temp. I opened the commercial hotwater valves and enjoyed a really hot shower. Sunday, I bled the air out of the heat lines and everything is working like it should. Being almost 80 degrees on Sunday I thought the house heat might be a bit much. Happy to be burning!!! The Hoosier
