Why is this fire purple??

This beautiful Red (Colorado) cedar came from near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The aroma from this wood is to die for-- I think this is the species that is used to make a cedar chest. The fire picture is a camera aberration. But it does kind of resemble the wood color. Thought you might get a kick out these pictures.
 
We used to burn old cedar tent poles from the shade tobacco fields. The smell was amazing and there was even some cool colored flames. The best part was that they were free. It's a shame that they use PT poles now.
