My highest paying single stump in Va. after Isabel was $1,475.00
I didn't really want to do the job cause if things had gone badly, the machine would have ended up rolling down into a ravine in the woods.... Had to set up some ropes and pulleys to control the machine... And the cutomer wouldn't let me use any of his trees or plantings as anchors....
Because there are no rocks I fairly easily hammerred a 5' digging bar into the ground leaving less than 2' showing.... I backed that up with a metal fencepost as Spidy describes...
Removal was accomplised with another 5' bar used as a lever, tied to the sunk bar with a friction hitch similar to the french prussic, with 10 or more wraprs taken around the sunk bar...
