We just had a cold snap where the wind chill temperature never got above about 15 below (fahrenheit) for 4 days.

It was pretty cold here this morning. 66*F, finally warmed up to 78.

Hey KOA Man why are you in this field anyway. Do you spike up palm trees all day. No jk. But it no fair you get good weather like all the time. It like 5 degrees Celcius here.

I am in this field because I moved into it after starting a lawn care business when I got laid off from the airline I was working for in 1983. I got called back, but kept the business going and eventually quit the airlines. I stopped doing lawns completely in 1988. Tree work paid more and was more exciting than mowing lawns. Palms are only about 15% of all the trees I do, and I actually hate doing palms. It is far more physically exhausting than real trees. There you have my work history in one paragraph.

Getting back to subject, I'm sure glad it warmed up today. It is 0630 and 70*F.
Should get up to 75 today. I hate cold weather.

Tonight: Some passing clouds. Low around 65F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy skies. High 77F. Winds SSW at 10 to 20 mph.

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear skies. Low around 65F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s.

Saturday: Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 60s.

Sunday: Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 60s.

Today the miles were lost...

Hey it warmed up to upper 20's today; so we figured to get the oak down, cut up and split. Well, the wind picked up in the 30 minutes it took to get there, switched direction by about 75 to 90 degrees, and what a wasted trip it was! The wind off of the 3 to 4 miles of ice made the eyes water, so we drove back and found a willow on the south shore of another lake to do. I actually took off a layerof clothing!

Of course, we used the ice to fell part of the tree; there simply wouldn't have been an easy way to do it in the summer.

I need to visit Hawaii sometime, Koa Man. As I sit here typing, my feet are cold, and it's only January! Seeing that Hawaii has the longest expected lifespan in the U.S. and I believe Wisconsin is right up there as well, making the switch should be a no brainer. Now, "...if I only had a brain!"

Another cold weather positive; crane job on lawn. We will be piecing apart a large red oak in an old cemetery on Friday. We would leave a huge landscaping nightmare if we weren't doing the job on frozen ground, so not all is lost...

Oh great; the furnace just kicked in again for the 20th time this hour - arrgghh. By this time next tyear the wood furnace will be up and running...

Take care, all. Oh, the oak will be done tomorrow (maybe!), and you have my heartfelt sympothies you tree people in da way up nort country. I have relatives near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in Canada, and in International Falls, Minnesota. One winter a number of years ago I saw the temperature on the thermometer at -55*F. I decided to live a little further south!

Gopher

P.S. Of course, when it is very cold, there is more than ample time to, well, do the horizontal bop!
