I know its a bit early to think about this but I'm trying to plan ahead. To those of you who pack it up for a few winter months what do you all do with your equipment; inside storage, tarp it outside, just leave it in the snow....? I had the luxury last year of getting everything inside for the winter but not sure that space will be available again or not at the cheap price it was last year. Just curious what everyone else does to protect their investments.

It's not a bit early. It's time to find if you don't have it figured out. I'm spoiled in this regard because I live on a farm. It's not mine, but my landlord is like a father to us. He has redesigned some of his buildings at other sites to make the buildings here work for me. He even says that I can store stuff here after I move in the spring. His son is getting married, so grammies house is his by may of next year.

I have my eye on some commercial sights for the future, but nothing is going to work out anytime soon. Might not need to as we have an eye on a farmstead that should fit all are needs if we get it.

You're in Chicago. Where?

You might consider contacting farmers or running an ad in the rural markets looking for storage space. As an added benefit, most criminals don't bother farmsteads.

Another benefit is that many farmers are happy to get chips and wood. Just make sure that the hawthorn and locust thorns are not in piles used for animal bedding

To your question, tarps work good for short term storage, though closing shop for several months is not always the best course one needs to keep in shape. The biggest problem is critter proofing the truck. I spent over $2k last winter from rodents eating my wiring.
