For you timers that know old stuff, :) my VG4D needs to be timed.

I replaced the advance (?) spring in the magneto, and can't follow the directions to get it timed. It seems like it may have been assembled in the past incorrectly.

I have owned the engine several thousand hours, and it was old then.

Old trick that may help if you know where the timing mark is. set the engine to where the timing marks are lined up. Put a continuity meter on the points, then while watching the meter open the points to where they just open on the meter then tighten the points. Turn the engine 2 revolutions and check to make sure the points are opening when the timing marks are lined up. Good luck.
