Fellow Arborist,

What is your gut feeling of buying a use wood chipper. I have a chance to buy a used (800hrs) Model 13 Morbark from a dealer. The dealer is asking for $25,000. It has a winch and is completely rebuilt. Here is the catch..... The previous owner used aftermarket knives on the drum, which snapped off during operation and damaged the drum and shaft. Both of these were repaired during the rebuild. What do you think??? Am I asking for issues or are morbark dealers pretty reliable about rebuilds.

Feed back please.

I don't have any experience with Morbark, but if they did the repairs, I would be confident that they were done right. It would be a huge liability if they were to do the work half a$$. Have them back their work up with a warranty.
I'm not sure what you're looking for in a chipper, but there are some good older chippers that wouldn't cost as much. If $25K is in your budget, cool. Do some shopping though, you could prbably find a better deal.

first, I think morbark makes great equipment, I have one. I prefer red to yellow.
Second, probably everyone on here to the last man uses aftermarket blades in their chipper with zero problems. IMO, more to it than the 'aftermarket blades'. That sounds like something to tell a perspective customer if you're trying to move a unit. I'd look a little deeper if it was me.
