I followed some advice given to me, and used a wore out bar in .050 .325 and welded a piece of angle iron on it to clamp to the bench to file with. I works very well!!!
Problem, all of my 3/8's bars are too nice/new and I don't want to do this to them!!! Anybody have a wore out 3/8" .063 bar, 16"-20" preffered but I can cut it down, that they would be willing to pack and ship? I am more than happy to pay shipping/time. Any takers? I know most run .050, but all I can do is ask!
Thanks,
Andy

Fine then, ruin all of my fun!!
I finally start a thread, and it's not "which saw is better........" or "What saw should I buy............" or "I bought this saw, but I am scared and having buyers remorse and think I should have bought a better one so which one is better........" Thread, and you have to shut it down on the second post!!!

If neither of you have a bar, I think I may have an old 18" .063 from my 260, somewhere is the shop . . . although it's been slow and the crew cleaned up my space, so now I can't find anything!!!

Just let the bars sit on the saw when you file - tighten the chains a bit more than for cutting.........

This is for fileing chains at home, I have done the touch ups in the feild as you describe, but I have eight chains for my 350/346 combo, eight chains for my 046 and four chains for my 192t. I am not interested in putting each one on the saw for a finish touch up!

I have a worn out .63 bar but you can't have it cause it works better than any new bar I have.

You could buy an ell cheapo forest champ closeout bar from bailys if you are placing an order with them sometime soon.

hey, when you're sharpening those chains what brand do you use?
Which brand is best . . . Oregon, Stihl, or Lazar?
And what type full chisel or semi?
Also what's the best brand of bar?

I don't care if it's free!

Stihl!!!

Usually semi, I cut a lot of dirty wood though, but am finding it's easier to sharpen full, is that just me?

Stihl!!!
