I work Sunday's and holiday most of my customers are understanding. I haven't had a real complaint yet. Most people spend time out side of there house shopping or at church so it doesn't effect them to much on Sunday.

I worked Sundays my first year to get things going.
I try to keep Suday for family now.
Many towns here have laws not to start equip early on Sundays

Different religious perspective.
Close to 1/2 of my clients are Jewish.
I don't know much about "my" religion or the Jewish religion.
But I think the Jewish day off is Saturday.
But the local laws are based on Sundays.

Saturday is the Jewish sabbath, they are not allowed to have work done or handle money after sunset Friday until Sunday morning. I spent a few years working In Brooklyn NY, for the Hasidic Jewish Community and all the work had to be done on Sunday. No work or estimates allowed on Saturday and no one was ever home during daylight hours during the week.
Certain jobs have to be done on Sunday, traffic, schools all considerations on the job, and then you have to price the job accordingly to be able to pay the help and hope they show up after a hard Saturday night ;).

I remember doing the snow a few years ago for an Orthodox rabbi and one of his congregation members. It must have snowed on either a Saturday or Friday afternoon, so I went to the rabbi's house to clean up the snow figuring that G-d forbid the police, fire dept, or paramedics had to get in. Guy tells me to come back Sunday. With his congregation member, if he wasn't in town it was fine by his family to do work on a Saturday. If he was around though... no deal, no matter what the job description.

I could work Sundays, but then my girlfriend would perform a Bobbittdectomy on me that night. Chillin' out, spending time with family and friends when they're off from their usual 9-5 gigs, is more important to me than constantly hustling for more dough. I don't do weekends, I don't do Wednesdays, if I can help it. Life is too short to let it go by in a blur because you're too tired to think straight most of the time. I invested in the stock market and real estate when I was a kid. Things panned out very nicely, and now I don't sweat grubbing for every last dollar I can. The old "Work smarter not harder," adage may apply here. I bid jobs where I can make a fair chunk of change without breaking my butt and turn down ones that'll be a huge hassle. Plan ahead when it comes to finances (start early in life), invest wisely (ditto), don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink in excess, and you'll do just fine.

Around here in some towns to cut your own lawn there are time restrictions on weekends. Jim, I don't think I'd have a problem with the cops (I hope) at this particular job site seeing as how the owner's brother in law is the chief of police. Honestly though, I don't think I'm gonna get this job, let alone do I think I really want it for the price that the competition is doing it for. Town guy says $1,200. Tree is worth $2,000 no problems.
yes you will be ok at that location i say go for it if you get any slack tell the complainers ,place is a biz and its open the other 6 days with bniz traffic let me know how it all shakes down good luck

I'm next door to you in nc, lots of bible-thumpers here too. Let em talk; it's not a Commandment to take off Sundays, just a custom.

I like working Sundays cuz clients are home to help and write a check. My kids usually go to their other house on the weekends so I'm free; even when they're with me they can come along and help or hang out.

i know man, some people think working on a Sunday is a sin or something. i'm sorry, but unless they want to pay my mortgage, then Sundays are the best day for selling/estimating since everyone's home. i had one lady look at me all cross eyed when i knocked on her door. "you're working TODAY?" ... yeah lady, i have bills to pay and a mouths to feed ya know. sheesh !!!

I actually used to preffer working saturdays and sundays and would take a midweek day off. I got A TON of walkup work and inquires when working weekends. Gets people thinking when they are home about whats going on in the yard. Walk up work is the best too. They didnt have to call you or wait for you to show up and do an estimate. Give a halfway decent esimate and you got the job. I probably made 15-20% of my total income from walk up's and 90% of those were from saturaday nad sunday work. Religeon is not king around here (thank god) and often people have said they admired the fact I worked so hard to work on a sunday.

I love to go back on Saturdays and grind out the stumps.

Lots of noise... Gets everyone in the neighborhood stimulated .

We always get a ton of jobs this way

I do most of my estimates on Sunday. I've been told more than a few times I got the job because I was out on a Sunday and was showing a strong work ethic . . . now if I could only get my wife and sons to understand that.

no work outside of paperwork and planning the week ahead on Sundays for me.

Learn about things before you talk about them. It is a commandment! (link) I can't believe you said that... So if you're a Christian, yes it's a sin. Most religions have days like this, and for good reason.

I work on Sundays only if I have to. If possible, I try not to work Friday, Saturday or Sunday. And I'm often gone on Mondays so my flights are cheaper.

Nick,
The Sabbath was part of the Law Covenant which was done away with with the death of Christ.

Colossians 2:16 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
16Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

Galatians 4:10-11 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
10You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

Acts 15:28-29 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
28It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

There is no evidence that the first century Christians observed the Sabbath after Jesus death. It was not until 321 C.E. that Constantine decreed Sunday (Latin: dies Solis, an old title associated with astrology and sun worship, not Sabbatum [Sabbath] or dies Domini [Lord’s day]) to be a day of rest for all but the farmers.

My point is that it is one of the 10 Commandments. People are welcome to follow whatever they want, my point was of being factual. We have so many different denominations because we have so many different interpretations, and I believe differently than you do. A deeper discussion belongs in the OT forum, so I'll stop there.
