My last project has finally finished today, ending a month or more of saw repairs and rebuilds. It all started when I “found a deal” on a small Granberg Mill that is supposed to help me finish a lean-to on my shed…

I was concerned about running the mill with my 10mm Stihl 044 as I’ve always known it was low on compression and not really something I wanted to put through the pains of that type of work, so I started scouring marketplace and other resources to see if I couldn’t find a cheap, larger cc beater and ended up with a decent 064 needing a new P&C. Fellow member T_Fishaa hooked me up with a good cylinder and I went with the Meteor/Caber piston and rings.

In the meantime, my recent search algorithms led me to a local guy that had an MS261C and an MS192TC that he was basically giving away. The 261 got a new Meteor/Caber Piston kit after cleaning up the cylinder, and the 192 needed a new housing as the PO dropped a tree on it and busted the oil tank. T_Fishaa hooked me up with a parts saw and everything got swapped over. I’ve got the 192 up for sale locally to recoup some of my money and hope the 261 replaces my trusty 026 that I love.

Then I went back to my 044 to see what it needed to get back on the top of her game to find the connecting arm on the crankshaft had bad bearings. Meadow Beaver hooked me up with a nice OEM replacement crankshaft and, in the process of tearing it down, found the crankcase bearings could be replaced as well. So, in a nutshell, she got a full OEM rebuild with the exception of the Meteor piston and she fired up today and is running strong!

The video is on the initial warm-up/heat cycle. Excited to have my stable full again!
