Would you keep the 14" bar & chains?

I have fitted my 192T with a 12" bar.

While reading through ArboristSite, I noticed folks keep numerous bars for their saw, especially the larger saws.

Should I hold onto my 14" bar and chains for the MS192T? My 192T came with the MS200T .050" bar and 63PM1-50 1 chains.

If I was going to have a 2nd bar, I thought the 16" setup might be a better alternative.

I suppose if I ever picked up a MS200/200T head, the 14" bar would fit nicely.

Thanks

The 14" is all I run on my 192t, don't have to use the whole bar, but the extra reach does come in handy.

I was just thinking the same thing, moments after I posted. Unless I picked up a 2nd 12" bar, the 14" would be my only alternate.

I'll think about it some more. It will take a little while to get to 50 posts on the site, so I have a little time to decide to list it in the trades or not.

Thanks.

Saw... I thought I read you were running a 12" bar. I find I don't really need the reach, but the extra speed of the smaller loop does work nicely when I'm trimming up limbs for firewood.

I will give it some more thought.

Nope, mine came setup just like youre's, 14" with the .050 PM chain. Still running it that way now. Thought about the 12", but it was too much of a PITA, and every now and then I need the 14"!

Not that anyone here ever had a tree set back or pinched a bar in a cut so hard that they needed to drop the bar-nuts and use the spair bar to un-stuck the first one?

Pretty much.

In response to your original question, I'd keep the b/c around. You don't have much money tied up in it, so you're not going to be out much by not re-selling it. It might come in handy sometime.

SAW... I was wondering if you thought the 192T was setup a little lean? I know you did the muffler mod and then tweaked tyhe carb accordingly. But do you think the carb could use a little tweak from stock anyway?

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a weekend warrior, although I do get to do a fair bit of my cutting on weekdays. :)

I'm using the 192T almost exclusely for trimming up fallen limbs for firewood. I have a large wooded area I can access. I take along a small work bench. I'll drive up to the edge of the wooded area, journey in a small distance, and drag back material for cutting. I almost never go over 6" thick, but sometime will go up to 8".

Sometime I find a nice fallen section, which needs to be widdled down a touch before I can drag it to my temp work area, such is the case when I work with the larger 8" limbs.

I then use the work bench as a way to do as few one handed cuts as possible. I looked at the smaller Stihl rear handle saws and I understand they are inherently more safe, but I loved the balance of the 192T when I tried it my dealer.

Anyway, I have found the 12" loop does work a little quicker.

I can understand the 192T with the shorter bar is not very much lighter, and the extra reach could come in handy. However, I'm not using the saw in a real world scenario.

Thanks again for the welcome. I'm already looking for my next Stihl. :D

im thinking thats the understatement of the year!!!!!!!!

OK...

I have thought about making a slight adjustment myself. Is it as simple as a little counterclockwise adjusment to "L"?

I should search the site for Stihl carb adjustments. If anyone knows a link off the top of their head, especially for the 192T or the smaller Stihl engine, please feel free to post it.

I'm not interested in doing the muffler mod til I'm outta warranty, but my dealer said he would help.

I never asked the dealer if they tuned the saw different from factory, and maybe I'm wrong to assume they have to set it up to meet EPA specs.

So, I would like to make some adjustments, if for no other reason than to protect the saw from lean fuel mixture damage.

I'm using 13" bar on my saw, used for felling, bucking and limbing... works fine upto 24" trees....

Keep the bar, you already own it. Like the others have stated, you never know when you are going to need it as a spare, especially if its the same pitch/ guage. If nothing else it'll look great filling up that space on your wall.... the beginning of a impressive collection maybe.
