Where do I start…

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - They paid cash for firewood, but customers of an Oswego County logger got just half of what they ordered.
The owner has been feeding them excuses for months, and he's still not delivering on refunds or wood that's owed.
After seeing an ad in the Pennysaver, Martin Sujkowski called and ordered 20 face cords of wood from Fairdale Logging in Oswego County. The wood was dropped off in a pile; the owner took his money. It wasn't until Martin got around to stacking it, that he realized there was something wrong.
“It turned out to be about 10 face cords, so I called him and he says ‘yes, I shorted you because we have this new digital system that was installed and it miscalculated, or whatever, yes you got shorted, I'll deliver the wood,’” Sujkowski says.
That was nearly eight months ago; Martin still doesn't have the other half of his order, or a refund. Scott Fonte has a similar story.
“I didn't know -- it was just in a pile -- what it was supposed to look like, so he left… I tried to burn a couple pieces, it just smoldered and turned black…I came out here and stacked it and realized it was exactly 1/2 short,” says Fonte.
Fonte called County Weights and Measures to confirm his shortage. The stack is also soft wood, not seasoned hardwood like he ordered.
Brodie Weaver, the owner of the logging company, claims his business has just gotten so big because more people are buying wood stoves that he's having a hard time keeping up -- an excuse Martin and Scott say they've heard dozens of times.
Martin won a small claims judgment against Weaver, but he's still got nothing to show for it.
Weaver has a handful of other outstanding judgments against him. I spoke with him at length and he said when business got busy, he made some careless mistakes, and he needs a little time to get things straightened out.
After our discussion, he showed up at Fonte’s house with some of the wood he owed him -- but not all of it.
We've heard from a few other people with complaints against this logger; they all say they heard about him through Craigslist.

Geez...when I sold firewood I gave a little EXTRA. What's up w/ people like this? I couldn't sleep at night knowing I screwed somebody.

Thats why YOU are not a criminal. I read stuff like this and thats all I think of is.. "well there you go, you have to have a criminal mind to do that" any normal person, without the criminal mind set, would feel/do just as you do and did. Thankfully, most do not have the criminal mindset.

Sounds like they should have bought wood from me instead...

If it was not for the names, i would swear it was my Ex-brother (lives in that area) inlaw:dizzy:

what is a face cord? I never heard the term b4
is it more or less than 4*4*8 cord I sell .
mick

Mickeyd - I've heard the term "face cord" used to describe 1/3 of a cord, 4ft x 8ft, but only one log (16") "deep" instead of three (48").

My neighbor sells firewood and all his is neatly stacked in 3 rows 16"x4x8. You get an honest cord however you stack it. He has sent customers back to get there own wood and they leave with half of it not realizing how much a cord really is. Earl has had to call them to come back and get the rest. Thats how bad people are being screwed but some dealers.

Yeah honestly what I sell as 1/2 face cords are close to what some people sell as a face cord...

That's how I figure my cord of firewood.

Brodie Weaver was to deliver 5 facecord to me and he only delivered 3 1/2. He refused to come back to my house to see how it stacked up. It's now mid-November and the initial delivery was in August 2018. He finds every excuse under the sun why he hasn't refunded me the $90 for the shortage. He's only offered a partial payment. I have filed a complaint against him with the NY State Attorney General on November 17, 2018. Mr weaver has a judgement against him for $1,618 from 2005. On Sept t 17, 2014 he was arrested for falsifying business records and insurance fraud . Upstate Hospital has a May 2018 judgement against him for $10, 451. There maybe more I haven't yet discovered.

A face cord is a semi legit form of measure, 4ft high, 8ft long and either 16 or 18'' length logs.

That is the "accepted definition" but it has no standing at alll legally.

The customers first mistake was buying from someone advertising "face cords". That is a big WHOA sign right there. I'm surprised New York Weights and Measures hasn't put him out of business.

do these big firewood companies ever actually measure?? I think they put a cord on their truck and see how full it is ,and just fill to that level . they arent out there stacking it ,,thats for sure. or they figure out how many buckets of the loader it takes to make about a cord. but shorting by half, thats BS. why didn't the guy just give half his money back. it was basically theft.

I'm near oswego and can point you in the right direction for wood if you need it. It's unlikely anyone is selling seasoned wood at this point in the season though.

Never heard of that outfit, just glad I process all my own wound and dont have to deal with scumbags. This county seems to be flush with them.

Guys in this county dont know what a real cord is. To make matters worse the term cord is used interchangeably with face cord whereas a face cord is 1/3 of a cord. Its partially ignorance but mainly stupidity.

Things like this will always end bad for the person committing the fraud. With the power of the internet this guys firewood business will be shot in a few years. He may make a larger profit now but in the end he will have lost more money than he could have made by doing legit business. Unfortunately customers will get screwed till he goes under.

I know how I'd handle this but I won't say. It actually doesnt take much effort to find out where someone lives or where they might keep their equipment. The guy is sure to make a lot of enemies. With all the rednecks in this county hes sure to piss of the wrong person eventually.

@ADKSparky, maybe reach out to the news station. This would make a hell of a follow up story.
