If I could play a guitar, I would give up the chainsaw.
With only two saws at the time, a MAC 700 and an 036Pro, measuring the cost of old saw versus new levered me into several old saws. At the time I didn't know that type of thinking was addictive until I had more saws than I care to add up. Needless to say, the total so far exceeds the cost of a 500i by more than a two to one margin. I have been selling and giving away saws for several years now and have only bought the 500i. I won't say I am cured but I am on the wagon.
My 500i was less than $1150 before tax. It is the 4th new saw of my life. Two McCullochs over 40 years ago - still have the 700 and use occasionally. And the 036Pro which I still use.
With the exception of the 125C powerhead on the top shelf and two of the 800s on the second shelf, I still have these (most under $200):
