200T Build

Here is another 200T I'm putting together. Had air leak at crank seals and intake boot. Doing a little machining on this one, popup piston and deck the cylinder, going to set squish at .020 to start, widened the ex port a little, there isn't much room on these to go wide. Here are a few pics.

the machine work on the piston and cylinder look good! :clap:

how thick is the remaining flange on the cylinder?
i have wondered how far you can safely take them.

There is lots of meat left on the cylinder flange. I'm not totally sure how far you can go, I can't imagine you'd ever test the limits, I only took of .035 on this one, that's about average for a machine job for me so far.

Thanks!! I'm still learning on the lathe. I'm a rookie compared to some, but I can get the job done ok.

Ya, I'm hoping for a little hot rod, my tree buddy, has been bugging me for a whlie to try a ported 200T, we'll see how it goes.

Will- that's looking real good. Yeah there isn't much room in the 200 cylinder, Stihl has those ported pretty well from the factory. They benefit highly from having the muffler opened up.

As good as you're getting with your lathe- I'll have to send up my 090 top end.

You and me both!! Going to tickle the ports a little more I think, then put it together and see how it runs, I hope the carb I have for it is still good.

Thanks JJ. Ya, these saws scream stock with a ported muffler.

The 090 cylinder might be a streach on this lathe, how big around is it? I've done 394 cylinder and a 390 cylinder so far, and those cleared fine.

No, just reusing the orignal rings and see what happens. I usually only hone when cleaning up Aluminum transfer.

I know I'll be hitting you up about it someday in the near future. I've been itching to try a pop up in one of my 288s. :chainsaw:

You know, the one without the decomp valve. :hmm3grin2orange:

i still have that one thing in the works........ after my parts arrive from 'france' i may be sending someone a top end to, err... umm... look at for me.

i have an 020av super that i was contemplating a pop-up on. the factory squish was around .040. removing the gasket helped but a pop-up would help more. :chainsaw:

Ya. 288's are cool saws. Dan I wish I still had mine. Decomp is nice on a high comp saw. Easier on the recoil too.

France LOL. I can see how that mistake was made, Paris/Parris?

.040, that's pretty huge! machine .050 off the base, then .030 on the piston leaving a popup, that shoud help out a bit.
