I just picked up a 046BB and am happy to report that the quality is outstanding. The ports are beautiful with no sandcasting goobers. The port shapes are good, with no flat or convex roofs or floors. The combustion chamber and squish area look great, with a fully machined squish area all the way to the combustion chamber. I'm VERY pleased with what I see. If this improvement in quality is being carried over to all the BB kits now....look out OEM. This thing is as clean a casting a a Mahle. No kidding!

Seen the same on recent 066BB. Plating, bore finish, ports and ducts all near flawless. Far better than the appearance of recent STIHL cylinders.

Excellent news. I have a prototype of the last gen 066BB. It looks great except for some squish area issues. That's the batch that was thrown away. I'm guessing the replacements have a machined squish band like this 046BB.

They are far superior cylindersto what Stihl's putting out!

The BB I have on my 460 was excellent as well. Just checked the comp. the other day for the heck of it and it had 200lbs. comp!

NWP products that I have handled recenty were excellent except for various degrees of problems at the very top of the bore, which Grande Dog is aware of, and hopefully has been addressing. Probably still a few of the old flawed bores in the pipeline, though.

Yep, NWP is getting better, while Stihl is headed in the other direction.

That is excellent. Thanks for the data, rep headed your way.

Though some people say that compression is merely a reflection of good ring seal and a small chamber, and doesn't help cutting speed........:deadhorse:

Who says that? I'd like to pick this scab....

The cylinders may look better, but I have seen very good looking aftermarket cylinders from years past develop problems with the lining. Not saying these aftermarket cylinders will have these problems. This is a nos cylinder from a late 60's to early 70's Poulan Super 72. They were very good quality for their day and loggers got around 1500 hours out of them without a problem.
