Today was a good day to be a Stihl collector. I was fortunate enough to add a 041G to the collection. The 041G is one of the rarest Stihl's out there, so much so that I didn't know if I'd ever own one. This one has a few issues, but nothing too bad. First off, it's a runner. It starts and runs great. The previous owner got it running after digging it out of the barn, but did not cut with it. The support for the top of the full-wrap handle was broken and replaced with a nicely fabbed steel piece. Amazingly, I already found and bought the proper replacement. There's also a small ear broken off the bolt hole on the bottom front handle mount. I'm hoping that I can have this piece built up with weld. There are a couple places on the front of the left side case that might need a little welding as well. There's also a small crack where the upper handle bracket bolts on. Several of the bolts have been replaced, but fortunately are all the proper metric threads. The muffler guard is missing, and that'll likely prove to be very difficult to find. Nearly every 041G I looked at online is also missing this part. My plans are to go through this saw entirely, and possibly powder coat it. That way it can be a looker and not get chipped up or messed up with fuel if I were to run it at a GTG. A nice NOS old school Stihl bar would be cool to find too.
