The new Husqvarna "flippy" caps

Ok these little bad Larry's should get their own thread.

They are new, and starting to show on the new 455 Rancher II models with AutoTune. They do retrofit to replace older caps, they have regular tank threads. They only come in the large size, that was not mentioned in the last thread.

This means they will not replace the oil tank caps on saws such as the 346 family, 550 family, 50/51/55 family, etc. Saws with the small oil tank caps will not interchange.

As long as they thread down they should be ok.

They thread in and use the same sealing rings as the current fuel caps.

Oh thank you Lord...I thought they were gonna be Stihl style debacles...As long as it just threads in, all it is is a grip / asthetics rig. Interested to see what long term reliability is- they can't be to thick.

Oh, of course they deserve their own thread. :bowdown:

I hope you guys don't think I'm getting carried away, but it would not be an overstatement to say that these caps are an even greater technological breakthrough than Auto-Tune. :msp_w00t:

Cool idea. I have no problem with these for 2 reasons. They did not over complicate a design that was working fine. Furthermore, they are backwards compliant, giving users a choice for the old caps if they don't like the new ones. From here, it looks like Husky did it right. :cheers:

They will likely be very nice to use - the question is how long that "flippy" handle stay in place with hamfisted users...

Anyway no big deal, as long as they can be replaced by regular caps.

I don't understand how they work - is there a chapter in the manual that describes how to use them, or perhaps a video?:msp_rolleyes:

Also, if I pee myself when I'm out in the woods, will I be able to blame it in the flippy caps like the Stihl guys can?

Dont get me wrong i'm not a stihl guy, but i find it funny that people beat up a idea from one manufacture and then when pretty much another one does the same thing it's OK???? I never seen the need for flip up caps or seen a down side to them, which is the reason i never had commented on them. It just seems when someone runs out of things to talk about on a sthil they always go to the flippy caps? Now it's on a husky and its OK?? Dont mean to ruffel any feathers i just dont understand!

They work just as the traditional caps, except that they have a handle on them. I don't see how they could make you "pee" on anything?

But, the only similarity between the two is the flip up grip. They are completely different in operation. The Husky version is nothing more than a standard cap with a handle on it. To say they are "pretty much the same" is way off the mark.

I see. I never looked real close to the stihl caps. I thought they sealed like the previous stihl caps did as well?? So does the stihl flippy caps give that much trouble? My main concern with them both would be breaking off the flippy part if they didn't lay back down.

How is it possible to miss how different these work compared to the Stihl flippy caps? :msp_rolleyes:

Btw, I never complained much about those either - I made one mistake, and learned from it....

No. The top half of the Stihl cap rotats independently of the bottom half, and you have to line the notches up just right, pop them in, then turn it a half turn to seal. If the tank is overfilled, they will not work. If you don't line the cap swivels up just right, they will not seal, but appear to be sealed. And the worst thing about them is if you don't like them, you can't use the old style screw cap, because there is no threads in the tank. They are an overengineered, overcomplicated solution to a problem that didn't exist. Had Husky came out with that style cap, I'd be on them just as hard.

Because I'm neither a husky guy or stihl thats how. My dolmar caps screw on that simple. and besides I dont remember calling any names Troll about people complaining! Enough said!
