I've recently developed a sickness, think you guys call it CAD? Well I had to find me a nice 70cc class saw project. Searched Craigslist for a few months and got a non running but complete, fair condition 372xp for a fair price. With muffler off it showed a scored piston but still pulled freely with no other obvious significant damage.

With the saws age (2002 MY) and unknown past a full tear down was on order. I've got it all torn down.

So far it looks like the main issue is a scored top end, bad crank bearings, and a few other odds and ends. I'm going ahead and basically replacing all fuel/impulse lines, seals, and any other wearable items that need it.

Since I know nothing about saws I figured I'd start my own thread and post up all my questions here to keep them in one spot and show my progress ( and mistakes, haha).

Just waiting for some more parts to come in from Baily's then the questions will start! Thanks in advance!

One last thing, anyone have an OEM husky jug for sale?

Ok time for some pics:

All the parts. I'll probably polish the plastics a bit, they are heavily faded

I was able to make the Husky case splitter tool for about $6 thanks to this site, awesome!

How did you build that case splitter?

There is a thread on here that has a full scale PDFS outline of the bracket for the tool. I printed it, cut it out, and scribed onto some scrap 1/4" plate I had around. Cut with a torch and ground edges smooth. I had some 1.5" square tube scrap too. I bought a 5/8"-11 x 6" carriage bolt, joining nut, and small ball bearing at my local hardware store and welded it all up.

Doesn't look like it at all. Looks typical of a sun faded see thru 99-05 husky "transparent" tank when left out in the sun. The sun turns them dark , turns the orange plastic whitish and makes the grey look chalky just like the pics show.

It appears to be OEM Husky. Has "EM Original" on it with Husky part number so I'm assuming it's original.

rob066 is hooking me up with a great deal on an OEM cylinder and piston, so now I've got all my parts figured out. Really glad I'll have on OEM top end, I was pretty nervous about spending a decent chunk of dough on an AM p/c kit.

Ok not much progress. Still waiting on bearings so can start on the bottom end. While I'm waiting I did replace the recoil starter sheave, pull apart, clean and lube the chain tensioner adjustment and replace the chain guide. I also found a spot on the bottom of one of the crankcase halves that almost had a hole fretted through! Looks like previous owner used a slight too long bolt for mounting the handle bar to the tank on the bottom mounts and it was rubbing on the crankcase. I filled it with some JB weld.

I also farted around with polishing some of the plastics. They are faded bad. Some sanding and rubbing compound helped a bit but not a big turnaround. I'm not gonna waist too much time on it, I don't plan on selling and this isn't a show car.
