hello guys, I am posting this coz here there are guys from all over the world. Drujba is the Romanian for chainsaw (together with motoferastrau which literally means chainsaw)
It is also a city in Ucraine, ex URSS or CCCP
As a boy it was the only thing related to chainsaws as Drujba was the only brand known to communists countries.

Time passed, democracy came and Drujba became extinct as the Tasmanian tiger.
Does anyone have a chainsaw Drujba? or even heard of such saw? It seems lost and even the Internet provides only a few clues of its existence.
For those who wonder, I will try to describe it a bit: big, loud, heavy, soviet made type, popular as two men saw etc.

I guess I am getting nostalgic but if anyone has anything, especially an certain information collector (just kidding)....
cheers.

what I remember is an image like this:

David Lee, in "Chainsaws, A History", Harbour Publishing 2006, mentions Druzhba chainsaws, with pictures. Apparently made by division of Dzerzhinsky enterprises (which still exists.)
You'll find some YouTube videos of Druzba (note "h" absent.)
Mike Acres (Acres Internet Solutions) has mfg. entry for Druzhba, but little more content than name.

Sure looks like a bug-killer. Stay upwind.

In Russian Druzhba = friendship IIRC. That thang don't look all too friendly to me :)

that is true. all communist names have a certain resonance; all public pools, clubs, papers etc were named like: (ad literam translation)
the momentum
the will
the spark
the progress
the flame
the comradeship
etc

I remember when the guy came to cut our firewood. back then the wood was thick not like today. Those Drujba were powerful saws; and the comrades were bug and strong and with blue eyes...LOL

cheers

Tag above it says "Made in the Soviet Union" Maybe our "Made in USA" tags should be that prominent.

Harry K

no offense but the only tags I see lately coming from USA are made in China (and occasionally Taiwan and Bangladesh)
two days ago I received a laptop from Canada, that was purchased in Detroit: Made in China all over. (Acer)

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if these are sold in the USA? I was thinking this type of saw would do great for firewood, and I have a regular saw to use for limbing...

Unfortunately The Count is no longer with us here on AS. I always enjoyed his posts and his humor.

The orange saw with the bicycle handles is made for cutting below the snow in a tree well? I think there were pics of a Husqvarna in that configuration posted here somewhere. YouTube has some vids of that also.

Or, I wonder if there is some type of attachment that could be modded on a regular saw to turn the bar and reorient it... (I almost put blade instead of bar! Glad I caught that noob mitsake) It wouldn’t be hard to add the handles and a second throttle lever on them, mainly I’m thinking that with a little doing this type would make it easier on a persons back.

They had them back in the old, old days. I was on an old mall with 4' bar taking down a big tamarack. I was on the outboard end. Dad had a McCullogh that I think had the rotating bar but my memory of that is pretty weak.
