hello all and Merry Christmas.I am looking at buying a new saw.I like the 441 and the 460.MY question is.Which for the weight and money are best.I love the look and all of 441.My question is for the same wight,Would the 460 be the best idea. Also get the dual muffler for the 460.Does the 441 have muffler mods like the 460?I would appreciate and feedback

I can only say that my new 441 is sssmmmmoooooootttthhh!

I don't need the extra power of the 460 and a 20" bar is usually enough for me, so when I bolt on a 28" bar I expect the 441 to be enough saw.

I have a 460 with DPMC and I like it, but would like to try the 441.
My dealer did'nt have one at the time. around here the 460 is $769
and the 441 is $729

I have both. I don't use the 460 that often anymore. I really like my 441 and boy is it smmmmmoooooooooooooooothhhhhhhhhhh. No, really.
The 460 has been a great saw and has a spot in my trailer as well.

I guess it'll come down to what you're cutting. I think the 460 and 441 are in different classes, like I consider the 460 and 440 to be. I'd put a 28" on a 441, and a 32" on a 460. I love the grunt of my 460. I don't know if the 441 has what it takes to pull a 32" or not. If you're not in timber, and not pulling longer bars, the 441 would be the smoother saw with better filtration.

And no, the 441 does not have a dual port as such available. It's a one-piece muffler like on a Husky or a Stihl 361. So far, I only know of Rich Hoffman modding a 441 muffler.

...and I see he's reading this thread right now.

Rich, the floor is your's....

I may be the only one who owns a 441 and has done a muffler mod on it. I didn't run the saw stock so I can't compare before and after muffler mods. But I really like the saw and think that Stihl has a winner here!

Thank you I am planning on using it to cut around the house, and would like to start up a land clearing business.I like the 361 but thought might run into a bit bigger stuff

For "around the house," the 441 should do you fine. Should the day come for a business, you can invest in larger saws then. In that case, skip the 460 and go straight to the 660.

If you had a 441 and a 660, there wouldn't be much you couldn't do. I keep toying with the idea of redoing a basket case 044/046...I've already got the 066 on that team. Maybe some day.

it is a serious thought. How much does modding the 460 help?Prob never run over a 25 to 28 bar

It will easily run with a stock 660 with the Big Bore kit and mods. I easily run a 32" in hardwood with mine. Oak, Ash, Hackberry and Hedge, it doesn't care!! I would not be afraid to run a 42" burried with mine. I am VERY HAPPY with mine and wouldn't hesitate getting/building another one, and I wouldn't think twice about sending a saw to the gentleman that built it!!!
