Hello chainsaw-experts,

I've got a STIHL MS 180 (made in the U.S. 2004;) ).

Now, working on the damages of hurricane “Kyrill”, I’ve broken the shield of the quick-stop system and decided to take a look into the IPL to get the part number. But today STIHL doesn’t publicize IPLs (in contrast to old models like 032 AV). Ostensibly it’s because of safety (I had a long email-discussion about that strategy with a STIHL marketing guy…). But what about safety if I’ve to repair the chainsaw without a IPL and a safety/repair manual? For me as a student a factory repair is too expensive.

Maybe some of you can help me…:help:

Thank you very much

just goto your local dealer and ask for that part, should probaply be in stock...

So...

that's the way I've done. But I’ve got still no repair manual. And I generally like to have a IPL…

Doesn’t anybody have a IPL for the STIHL MS 180?

Thank you so much!

That’s it! :biggrinbounce2:

I’ve searched online for nearly a half day…

I’m so happy!!!:yoyo:

I too need a repair/service manual for the ms180C. We don't have a reliable stihl repair center anywhere near us. Can anyone help me out?

Our ms180C isn't getting oil to the bar. My husband is really scratching his head trying to figure out what the problem could be. He used compressed air to blow out the oil line and oil passage. Now when he blows compressed air through the oil channel that feeds the bar, air comes out a less than 1/4" hole in the pocket that the muffler is recessed into. He's wondering if he blew out some kind of plug? Also, to get to the oil line we have to remove the starter side cover and fly wheel. Correct? Is the fly wheel threaded on or need to be pulled to get access to the oil tank? Is there anything in the service manual regarding this? How does oil get to the passage that contacts the bar?

But first, look at the sprocket, take it off, and make sure that the notch in the sprocket lip is caching the oil pump driver tang under the clutch.

Thanks for the places to start looking! Have to go to my day job - will get back to you tonight on these 2 suggestions.

Wow! I see this thread was a while back, but I too could use an IPL for my MS 180C-BE, got mine used (made in 2015) sure runs and cuts good, just ordered an Oregon 14" bar and Stihl 3/8lp (yellow) .050 full chisel chain and did a muffler mod. can't wait to try it. Thank you
