Mapp gas torch to heat it up after mounted in the vise. 2 Stihl screnches to pry it off.

Thats where my confusion was wth the race thing. I didnt realize the clutch side bearing is a custom bearing and the seal mounts right in to it.

Good on ya Jason, fer fixing yer buddy's saw. Good luck on the project! You are delving in way deeper than I ever have. Once the case is split on a pro saw, I don't have the tools to deal with it.

I have a couple 009s and 012s to split, and fortunately, I hear they are not as difficult to do. Guess I'll find out soon.

Did I just hear Lake telling someone to use something chicom? :jawdrop:

That's pretty much all the autoparts stores sell nowdays. Junk, but for $8..

I have some Proto (good) and assortered garage sale chinese junk. I don't feel bad about using the junk as welding fixtures or beating them with hammer, or lending them out;)

Dont get me wrong here. The guy basically gave me the saw, he just took the bar and chain. I told him I was going to fix it, and I would be back in touch with him, which I will be. He said again that I could have the saw and parts. Whereas the bearings will cost around 60$ for both from the local Stihl dealer, he probably wont want it back. In that case it will remain my saw.

He will have the option to pay for the bearings, and maybe a case of beer, and he can have it back if he wants...

I just feel bad because the guy drove 90 miles each way to have me fix a saw, and he had all the right parts. Who knew the bearing was junk, doesnt happen all that often.
