Hey guys (this site is great)

I have been running an 026 w/ 20 bar (new in 95) for quite a while and it seems to be losing a little bit of the power and speed it once had. I am thinking about trading it and getting a new 260. I was just wondering what the word on the 260 was, good or bad. It will be primarily used for cutting firewood, and misc farm work.

It might be better to tune up or rebuild your 026 than put all that money in a new saw...unless you just want a new saw...which would be understandable as once you frequent this site the chance of new saws showing up increases exponetially...

The new ones run worse than the old ones, compliments of the EPA. If I were you I would just rebuild the saw you have, assuming it is in decent enough condition. Probably only needs a top end and seals, and a carb rebuild. Lots cheaper than a new saw.

He could buy a new one and rebuild the carb off hsi old one and swap it onto the new one, along with opening up the muffler and have a good runner. Rebuilding the old one might get way more involved than he cares to.

Come on...rebuilding is half of the argument for owning a "pro" saw. :D

But with the uses described, I don't think that saw should be starting to fade. Maybe the expectations are just rising, or maybe it just needs a little carb care. I know that my old non-pro saw from the 80's is still going strong.

You just need a K10-WAT kit.

Check your compression. That will tell you a lot about the condition of your old saw.

As for old verses new - just open up the muffler front on the new saw, or put your old muffler front on, and it will run as good as or better than your old 026 when new. The WTE carb on the new saw is fine.

Thanks guys, I think I will start by rebuilding the carb.

Do the have carb rebuild kit available?

Listen to Andy (Lakeside) - there are probably no-one here with more knowledge on those saws than him......:rockn:

The new ones are 50.2 cc vs 48.7 or so for the old ones, but choked down because of EPA....

But that 20" bar .......:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I take it you love a 20" bar on a 026 so much that you can't stop grinning. I know I love the 20 incher on mine. :yoyo:

Seriously, though, I hear about how much it slows a saw down to run a longer bar. Has anyone ever done any quantitative testing on that? i.e. cut speed vs. bar length maybe from 16 to 24" in 2" increments (go to 24" just for grins) on the same 260, using the same type of chain, factory-fresh in each case. I'll bet variation in chain tension makes more of a difference than 2" of bar length...

If Lakeside (Andy) says it is so; and it is a Stihl; it is Gospel!!! Do I Hear a HALLELUJAH??? Sing the praises of Andrew brothers and sisters.

Don't stand to close... Wouldn't want anyone burned when the lightning strikes:biggrinbounce2: :hmm3grin2orange: .

A nobody that spent an brand new MS660 (LIST!!) at the dentist today... and no, I don't feel great. I'd much rather have the $1000, or even another MS660....

Yep.... 4 full shots of local anesthetic, and still no numb in the tooth.. sucks.. always been like this for me.

It hurts, I shell out BIG bucks - that really hurts, then I go back.. hmmm... kind of like AS...;)

Maybe the dentist charged you that much "cuz he is eyeing a brand new MS660...:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
