For christmas I gave my dad a new 192T. I must say I am really impressed with that little saw. While I was at his house he found his old 034 91' or 92 model. It has been neglected and needs a good cleaning and fix up. I thought I would rebuild the carb, put on a new cylinder and piston.

What can be done to the bottom end without spending too much money? Would I be better off to leave the bottom end alone if there are no signs that the crank has problems?

Do you need a new cylinder and piston? Unless badly scored, a light hone can save many 034 cylinders.

The lower ends are pretty robust. I rarely need to replace the bearings etc. Just pressure test the saw after assembly, and you might need to replace the crank seals.

Might as well throw a 036 cylinder and piston on it if you're doing the topend

look on ebay from ls_quintos The 036 set is $65, and is actually a Stihl set, not aftermarket. You will have to change your top shroud and maybe the muffler - the 034 muffler is often (depends on the model) 2mm too long. Look at the 034 and 036 IPL. Make sure you have the correct carb that can handle both the 034 or 036.

1125-140-0606 is the part number for the muffler if you need to change it you will need to modify the top shroud as lakeside has already said and it is a sh!t to do but worth the hassle(just use an angle grinder). I have done the conversion from 034 to 036 and you will not regret doing it I am still running the tillotson carburettor in mine and it runs well but i feel it will do better with a zama C3A carb on it. also if your 036 cylinder comes with a decompression port just get a plug bolt for it and put that in you won't need a decomp valve
