On the shroud of the saw it has 038AV .I need to put a new sprocket on the saw and to my suprise the sprocket is not made to the drum and the drum is behind the gear on the oiler for the chain. the gear attached to the oiler will pull out some and then stop. Now I am lost what to do

The sprocket is small round and has two oblong bars that fit in to he hub. I am plain out Lost on this saw This saw had to be put togeather by a stihl Employee at home with different part of other saws and sold it as a 038 ????

I need some Help or Advice, any thing that might help

Sounds like an old model 038. You will have to convert it over to the later model sprockets cause the type you have is NLA. Remove the 5 screws that hold the cover over the rest of the sprocket/clutch. You will need at least a sprocket drum (either a one or two piece), an oiler gear, round washer with a star like shape cut out of the center and at least one retaining clip. These parts are still avalible. I cannot think right off the top of my head what else you may need. Maybe this helps you.

The gear will come out of the pump - just turn it (can't remember which way..) while applying pry pressure..

Yes, you a have the very early version. It updates to the rim system.

Jack Ass (Donkey) with 038

To be honest, I do not know how to post a picture. Could be (I Q)

Where in the world can I get a drum socket. Stihl will not sale me one. Dealer, there is no way. (As of now lost as a snow ball in a fire)

As for the gear on the pump I have turned it counter clock wise and clock wise. That Dang Gear stays still attached to the pump.

If some one could walk me through what to do by posting pitures I just might know how and what to do ?????

There is nothing wrong with the saw just needs to have new sprocket. Is eBay my best bet with this saw?

That gear will raise up and come out. You need to turn it and put alittle more upward pull on it and out she'll come. That sprocket your asking about is outthere as well, don't understand whats up with your dealer. Part# is 1119-640-2000 and they are available..
