Thanks for that sefh3! I saw the pics yesterday. Ive been playing with the Mediacat, wow what an awesome program. Theres lots of parts for these old saws that were not made by Stihl. How do you guys find out what part number was used on what if its not a Stihl product?
Weird I opened the thread this morning, did not see the pics, replied and boom they popped up. Is it me or is this site a little whacky sometimes? ;-)

As you can see by the starter prawl setup they are different. You can't take an older points starter and replace it with the newer 2 pawl setup. The mounting of the starter cups are different. Also, you can't use an electronic ignition coil with a points coil. The coils are fatter and the starter housing will not fit. Too bad we can't see some of the older pictures in the thread. Some of these issues were documented and pictures to show everyone.

I've read the entire thread, lots of good info here. I've learned a lot from AS. I have an 075 I'm trying to get running and apparently, I need a trigger unit. Anyone know where I can get one?
Expensive on ebay...., aftermarket modules available needing polarity and grounding figured out to work right depending on what you get.
Google Stihl 075 ignition trigger unit. Hell, ya could probably scrounge an old 011 somewhere with a good trigger unit for what R&R is asking for the damned part!

My mechanic got a hold of a stihl tech and he said an ignition coil from a ts760 would work. It has an integral trigger unit. Does this sound right? They're $160.00 from stihl. I found one new on eBay for $45.
Does your ignition version look like this?

Well I did it!! Successful conversion to pawl type flywheel and starter! She runs like race horse! Idles nice, nice high wot, smooth acceleration. Very happy to have it done. 2 broken fins on the flywheel set me back well over 120$. That cheesy starter handle was replaced with drilled out elastostart. Saws up for sale. I didnt really clean it seems most guys like the saws dirty used look. The saws Ive dressed up dont sell as well, go figure. Thanks for all the help guys!

You can use a universal points replacement module on them.....no need for the stihl unit

I wanted to switch it over to the pawl style starter. Better locking engagement when starting, hands down, thats why they improved the design ;-) Plus I personally just dont like the dawgs after many years of dealing with Ski-Doo starters. This saw has over 160 psi and no decomp, it deserves a good starter. Not to mention the bigger tank will hold more gas for longer cutting if used for milling.

I'll be starting my 1111 build soon - not sure if it will turn into an 075 or 076 or a frankensaw of the two but I'll be posting pics here as I move along. I have a good case and most all of the parts I need, including several tanks, and a ts760 donor for other parts I can use.
