Hi Brad, excellent work as always. The conversion doesn't seem to be as complicated as I had been led to believe regarding piston/case clearance.Do you know if this is the case with all 064?
Also how did you keep the swarf out of the crankcase on the two through holes.(I'm assuming you didn't do the work upside down and then flip the photos 180 before posting them)

I just made a few test cuts with the 064. It's running good. I'll have to get it out in some bigger wood and run it against my 066BB to compare them.

are you gonna video this? id like to see the difference in a 066 and a big bore 066.

The through holes do not go into the bottom end.

I took the saw out today to run a tank of fuel through it cutting firewood. I had only run it just a little bit and it quit running. It wouldn't even try to start. I put it aside to inspect when I got it home. I pulled the plug and it was totally dry. Obviously, it wasn't getting any fuel. I had pulled it probably a dozen times on choke too. Next I checked the spark. I just put this unlimited coil and flywheel on it last night. That checked out good too. So, I put it back together, put in on choke, and she fired up and ran perfectly. I think the problem was the carb had iced up. I did not have the winter shutter open and it's been very cold this weekend. So much for trying to get a little time on it.

i cut some wood today with 2 different saws and had no problems with icing or stalling. its prolly a little cooler in ohio than here though, it was 21 degree all day today.

This is fun, i am going to do the same thing to another saw i just baugth of the internet last week.It is an old 064 saw ,But i got some problems with my order from Baileys addres and zip code to New Jersey woldn`t go thru on my check out page. I just have to cal them on monday late at night since i live in Norway (8-9 hour time difference)

I believe carb icing is worse close to freezing with enough humidity. It's 30F with 55% humitidy right now. Not sure if it matters, but I was running 100LL too.

You're getting fast enough now... You'll have to work on three at a time, blindfolded... So it's a challenge. LOL

I did:) I installed the 346 unlimited coil and ran/tuned it. I installed the 064 unlimited ignition and tested that out. I went out and test ran and tuned the 361BB with the bored out carb, and then started working on this conversion. I started about 1PM. I was done a little after 9PM. My speed used to get me in trouble when I was younger. I'd get in too big of a hurry and not do things right. It was then that my Dad began drilling into me that "if it's worth doing at all, it's worth doing right". That's been my moto for 2s years of adult life now. I still have to remind myself sometimes, lol. I've had occasion to watch myself doing tree work on video and it's embarrasing. Why don't that guy slow down? No wonder I'm exhausted when I'm done! I was nearly running around. LOL, just a little self inspection about my personality I guess:)

ROLMAO!!

What does your wife say about this hobby of yours? Mine hates all the time I spend on this site (and 'others')... Let alone doing all that saw work.

LOL

Somebody hook up Brad with a fix! He's good for it, he swears! Wait, I'll be hooking you up. ;)

Is that helping or does that make me an enabler?

I'm just trying to keep the workbench clear. I forgot. I also worked on putting my 041 Super together yesterday. My NOS piston showed up without the rings it was supposed to come with:(. I've got that one to finish and another little Redmax 3800 to clean up and port.

I've admittedly not given this saw a chance to show its stuff. But I have a hankering to put the 064 cylinder back on it. In my experience, 066s only seem to make about 155 PSI, where as this 064 with a damaged piston and rings still made 165-170. I ported it a while back and ordered a Meteor piston for it. The piston came in today. They both weigh exactly 3.0 oz on my scale. The stock sometimes flashes to 2.8 but settles on 3.0. The Meteor sometimes flashed to 3.2 but settles on 3.0. So they're within about 0.3 oz of each other in weight. Every dimension of the piston measures the same except for skirt width, which is wider. Of course the new piston is a little tighter in the bore too. I'm anxious to pop this baby on and see what the compression is now. In all fairness, I need to time the 066 P&C before I remove it, or I'll forever be curious.
