Thanks! That gets me a lot too.:bang:

Same here, in fact just tried and got the infamous message.

Great idea on the springs. The new ones I installed were like the old ones, probably been in inventory for awhile. Should get the rest of my parts in this week :D

Got it back together today

I just wanted to do a follow-up post to say Thanks for all the help with this "project". I got my backordered parts today and put everything back together. I had a chance to make a few 20"+ cuts and it runs great. Set it to about 11,750 with the 25" bar. Starts on the first pull after it's warmed up, so far so good. I'll run it a little more before putting it on the mill.

I had the oil hose going from the pump to the bar already installed and though I had it whipped. WRONG Getting it on the oilpump was the worst part :bang: without kinking it. Moral to the story, leave the oil hose alone unless there's no other choice. Seems like I've heard that before

flht01 was that you that just picked yourself up a service manual too. Got me one last week, couldnt find a download version for the 084's. Lot of info in the things.:)

That was me, can't wait to read it. Kinda got the cart before the horse on this one. Good thing I got so many response's from the forum members, tyied to rep everybody that helped.

Oh, replaced the aux oiler cable while I was at it. I got the chain moving at a fair speed and pushed the button, like opening the flood gates. Plenty of oil, glad I went ahead and fixed it now. Just didn't care for having to remove the oil hose from the pump.

All righty then!!!!!!!!!

  Glad to hear things worked out. I ran about 4-5 tanks through mine after rebuilding before milling with it. I may be a bit too nervous about burning it up again but I've made it a habit to pull the cap off the muffler check the piston every so often. Probably excessive but makes me feel better.

Couldn't agree more, great site - great people. I'll give you a call after I've had a chance to run a few tanks through it.

Even though I didn't rebuild it, I'm going to run it a little before putting it to the test. I'll probable drop it back to around 11k and go to 32:1 Ultra when I do. Like you, I'm a little nervous with the price of parts for these things. I ran about half a tank yesterday on a new plug with 50:1 Ultra. Pulled the plug and there wasn't enough color on it to get a reading, don't trust 2 stroke plug readings anyway. I think I'll just slip the muffler cover off after a few tanks for a benchmark and after a little milling to see if my settings work.

A few observations on the 084.
  • very stout with a 25" bar
  • Very heavy
  • not very good as a climbing saw, prefer 200t
  • very heavy
  • will probably spend most of it's existance on the mill
  • very heavy
  • ...

Have you noticed it's very heavy, too?
