but some one around here must have at one time or another!!!!!

Some, sure.. but it's rare... I'm on the other side of the counter and see warranty requests rarely, and they are usualy something small or a module like a coil or carb. I've seen a couple of burnt up pistons, but that was straight gas. Stihl helped out on one of those.

As for blaming the customer? Usually the dealer bends the other direction....

Bad news

Talked to the dealer today.

the piston is ok but the guy that "tryed" to fix it honed the cylinder and its just freaked up bad. Crank seal on the PTO side was leaking air, the impulse line had an big hole in it. Lots of problems from a guy that said

Stihl 088 gas powered chainsaw with 25" bar and 2 new .404 chains and 1 used sharp .404 chain, new fuel filter ,Stihls proffesional grade saw with 200lbs compression, new piston ,new bearings new seals, new muffler wedges and spring, cylinder in great shape, chain brake and oiler work great. ....decompression valve for easier starting...the saw runs great and has tons of power...if you are reading this ad you already know what kind of saw the 088 is ....122 cc and 8.5 horsepower ....This saw is really clean and in good shape...small break in the plastic for engine shroud and small hole in recoil housing, neither effect this big dogs preformace....bar and chain will be removed and shipped separalately...if you want a bigger bar for this saw contact me with what you want and i will adjust the price..... I am a small engine technician and i repair Stihl brand equipment in my garage as a hobby...as with all my saws that i sell on ebay I tear the saw down, remove all parts ,clean all parts ,replace gaskets and seals,re-assemble the saw replacing any part that is worn and saw is ready to go,,,other than scratches, worn paint, and small breaks already described the saw is as good as the day that it left Stihls factory, mechanically its 100% I quarantee this,,if for any reason you are not satisified 100%,contact me within 5 days of receiving the saw,i will refund all your money except for shipping...i dont know how i can be any more fair than that...check my feedback...i dont sell junk...I will buy your old Stihl saws running or not....contact me and tell me what model you have.......shipping is expensive for this saw mainly because the powerhead alone weighs 23 pounds......shipping will be $65.00 u.s funds in Canada and 85.00 in the 48 states shipped by u.p.s ground.... International shipping will be higher Thank you and good luck Don

So he wants me to pay for shipping back to him......Do you think I should or should I file some sort of problem with him or what.....

thanks guys.

Why dont you see if the seller would be willing to refund some of your money so you can get the saw fixed?

I only say this because I know who has your saw and he WILL NOT cut corners on getting it running again.

Yeah, $460 is a chunk of coin to fix the saw. You had what, $700 into it so far? In total that's nearly the favored customer price for a new one, and only a bit less than retail. I guess it's a toss-up - if you want a rebuilt 088 for a hair less than the price of a new 880, then go for it. If you wanted this to be a bargain saw to play with, well, that dream is over!

As for what to do with eBay/PayPal, I'd just chalk it up to the gamble you take with eBay saws. Live and learn, accept and move on, stuff like that.

You've got a saw that can be rebuilt, and once it is rebuilt it should last you as long as a new one. Which is good, because that's how much it cost you.

going to have the saw put back together and send it back at an loss of 125 bucks. My loss and never again on e-bay, the guy pretty much thought that the dealer I went to was an freak dumb a$$ and had no idea what he was talking about. So I am shipping it back and hopfully he sends the money back, is there any way I can make sure he sends it back?

thanks alot.

Yes, send it back... RBtree had a similar experience with an 066 two weeks ago... and sent his back. Also to CA...

Tell ebay/paypal the item is being returned. Remember though, if he empties his paypal and bank account, even paypal can't force a refund...

This really sucks.. and is more and more common.
