090G is 58mm, 090 is 66mm. Other than that, I have no idea if they are interchangable. Would be an interesting project, though.
A 137cc gear drive saw would be a pretty formidable thing.
The reason the 090G came with the smaller top end to save on stress to the gear-drive transmission. It takes a lot of beating in the course of transmitting power to the bar and chain. Putting the bigger top end on the gear-drive saw will shorten the life of the gears, needle roller bearings, and drive shafts. The 106cc top end has plenty of power for the gear-drive.
Hi Mike, Jacob makes some good points about the tranny. If we think about where those saws were used and the stress they were put under and the tranny still stood up, using the larger jug may be alright if you use 404 drive and don't cut rock imbedded driftwood with it.
